Georgia Football: Bulldogs Who Could Surprise People This Spring
There is no doubt the Georgia Bulldogs will need to meet high expectations this season. Anything short of the College Football Playoff will be a disappointment.
And in order for the Bulldogs to achieve their goals this upcoming season, the players who are expected to do big things need to be on top of their game. Guys like Nick Chubb, Jordan Jenkins, Malcolm Mitchell and Leonard Floyd are expected to put up big numbers and be leaders.
However, there will be a few players who aren’t expected to do too much, but they have the ability to turn heads and be key players for the Bulldogs this upcoming season.
Here are a few Bulldogs who could surprise people this spring.
ILB Jake Ganus

The inside linebacker position might be the second-most competitive positional battle this spring behind quarterback. And if there’s one player to watch at inside linebacker, it would have to be Jake Ganus.
The UAB transfer is already turning heads, and Jordan Jenkins told Justin Hubbard of the The Red and Black that Ganus is not afraid to stand out from the pack.
Ganus is a vocal guy who flies around to the football. If he does not become a starter by the end of spring practice or fall camp, he will see a lot playing time this season.
TE Jay Rome

Last year, it was Jeb Blazevich who was turning heads at the tight end position. But this spring, Jay Rome could be the guy that gets the most attention.
Rome, who has 310 career receiving yards and three touchdowns, has been injury-plagued his entire career. But he told David Paschall of the Chattanooga Times Free Press that he’s finally healthy and is ready to have some fun this year.
When Rome is healthy, he is a very dangerous target. And the combination of Rome and Blazevich could make the Bulldogs offense ever more potent than it already is.
DL Jonathan Ledbetter

Trent Thompson is one of the more talked-about prospects the Bulldogs have had in a while. However, Jonathan Ledbetter is the one who is getting the attention this spring.
Now, part of it has to do with Thompson not enrolling until the fall, but Ledbetter is looking like a veteran at spring practice. According to 247Sports, he was fitting right in with the veteran players in terms of individual drills.
There is no telling if Ledbetter will get the starting nod on the defensive line, but he’s off to a hot start and shows no signs of slowing down.
WR Justin Scott-Wesley

Justin Scott-Wesley was able to return to action last season after suffering a knee injury in 2013. But he was not able to make the big plays he was making in 2012 because he was still feeling the effects of the torn ACL.
However, things look different for Scott-Wesley this spring, as he was turning heads the first day of practice. 247Sports reported that he was leaner and was able to get in and out of his breaks with no issues.
Malcolm Mitchell might be the team’s best deep threat, but Scott-Wesley could be the receiver that not only has the best spring, but is also the most productive receiver this season.
RB A.J. Turman

Nick Chubb is the main man at running back, Sony Michel is right behind Chubb, and Keith Marshall is looking to get back to where he was as a freshman.
But A.J. Turman could surprise everyone this spring because he is a very talented running back who was impressive during last year’s spring game.
He was out with a foot injury last year, but Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald reported that he is going through spring practice without any limitations.
As spring practice rolls on, Turman will be able to show off his talents just like he did in the 2014 spring game. And if that happens, the running back position will be the deepest it has ever been.
