WWE Rumors: Examining Latest Buzz Around Brock Lesnar, AJ Lee and More

Ryan DilbertMar 24, 2015

Brock Lesnar's WWE future and AJ Lee continue to be at the center of rumors.

The Beast and the Diva are always hot topics on the Internet, and WrestleMania week was no different. Lesnar's contract situation and what he may be doing come WrestleMania 32 are big stories. As for AJ, there is word that she may not be well-liked backstage.

Elsewhere, Twitter clears up rumors of WWE not liking an unauthorized mini-documentary and a backstage report provides a possible spoiler for the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match on Sunday.

We begin, though, with the man who will defend the WWE title at the biggest event of the year.

Brock Lesnar Update

Onscreen, Lesnar prepared to battle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania with a baffling closing segment on Raw. Backstage, The Beast Incarnate is reportedly engaging in another type of battle.

According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc), WWE was pushing hard to get Lesnar to sign a new deal on Monday night rather than wait until closer to the end of the month. There is a feeling that this is a "Who will blink first?" situation. There has been no word on him signing on Monday.

The champ has plenty of leverage, as he doesn't need WWE. A return to MMA or Japan are viable options.

It's not surprising to hear reports of how much WWE wants to get a deal done before WrestleMania. Whether he is going to stick around or not has to have an impact on what the company plans to do with the world title.

If he really is on his way out, that surely spells a Reigns win. If Lesnar re-signs, WWE has the option of trying to continue his unconventional title reign.

Either way, officials can't be happy with the uncertainty surrounding the megastar.

Should he choose pro wrestling over MMA, WWE reportedly has a potential plan for him. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestle Zone), the idea behind Lesnar mentioning The Rock in a recent promo was to plant the seed for a possible match between them at next year's WrestleMania.

A lot of things have to roll right for that to happen. Just as Lesnar is not guaranteed to be around past this WrestleMania, The Rock competing again is no safe bet.

The Great One addressed the possibility of facing Lesnar in an interview with Deco Drive's Chris Van Vliet (h/t USA Today). "There’s a lot of things that are up in the air. Lot of things are up in the air. We'll see."

Issues with AJ Lee?

AJ may not be as popular in the locker room as she is with WWE fans. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) notes that there is some heat on AJ due to how long she was away from the company.

The former Divas champ took off several months early this year to nurse a neck injury.

AJ Lee battles Naomi.

How anyone would begrudge a wrestler for looking to get healthy is hard to understand. Her absence actually afforded other women a chance in the spotlight. It's certainly not like she abandoned the company.

This is a rumor to take with a proverbial grain of salt for now.

She has been a magnet for rumors that have turned out to be false. Remember when she was supposed to be pregnant?

WWE's Response to Wrestling Documentary

How did WWE react to Max Landis' Wrestling Isn't Wrestling short film which parodies Triple H? One report suggests the company pushed back against it, but the filmmaker says otherwise.

Bryan Alvarez reported on F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc) that a source told him WWE's legal department wanted to take Landis' video down. He went on to say that while wrestlers enjoyed the movie, the front office wasn't happy about it.

That doesn't appear to be the case.

Landis responded to Alvarez's report, claiming that WWE only asked talent not to tweet about the video due to its explicit language:

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon seemed to confirm Landis' statement, both coming out in support of the controversial film:

The likely scenario is that WWE appreciates Landis' creative celebration of its industry but knows that it's too profane to promote. It doesn't help that it includes Chris Benoit references.

Neither Triple H nor McMahon tweeted a link out to the video. And you surely won't see it on WWE's YouTube page.

Still, as non-PG as it is, Landis' work is a big, passionate salute to Triple H and wrestling in general. It would be hard to be a part of the business and not appreciate it.

Rumored Next Intercontinental Champion

Bad News Barrett fans won't like what's being reported about whom WWE has in mind to win the Ladder match for the IC title. According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestle Zone), the current plan is to have Daniel Bryan win.

That makes sense in a variety of ways.

For one, it helps to pacify fans unhappy with Bryan winning the Royal Rumble. The IC strap is certainly not on the same level as the world title, but there will be excitement about what he could do for it as champ.

Bad News Barrett wants his title back from Daniel Bryan.

Bryan's star power and popularity will help revive the championshipsomething WWE has clearly been trying to do.

Of course, even if he is indeed the planned winner at WrestleMania, there are plenty of days until then. Vince McMahon's mind could easily change, so don't count out Dolph Ziggler or Dean Ambrose just yet.
