Georgia Football: Week 1 Spring Practice Stock Report

Brian JonesMar 23, 2015

The Georgia Bulldogs have wrapped up the first week of spring practice, and by the looks of things, they have a chance to have a successful 2015 season. The quarterback battle is off to a hot start, the wide receivers look healthier, and the linebackers are still as strong as ever.

But just like any other team after the first week of spring practice, the Bulldogs still have a lot of things to work on before they can finish the season and move on to fall camp. They will have plenty of time for that because there are still a couple of weeks before G-Day take places at Sanford Stadium.

Here’s the Week 1 practice stock report for the Bulldogs.

Stock Up: Quarterback Battle

1 of 4

If there’s an early leader in the quarterback race, it would go to the one who led the Bulldogs to a win in the Belk Bowl last season.

Brice Ramsey is battling with Faton Bauta and Jacob Park, and according to 247Sports, he got the most praise from offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer in terms of throwing the ball. That said, Park and Bauta were throwing the ball with confidence as well.

It’s going to be a tight race, and it will come down to the wire. Ramsey may be the leader right now, but that can (and probably will) change by the end of spring.

Stock Up: Jake Ganus

2 of 4

As mentioned earlier, there is a ton of talent at the linebacker position. But if there is one player who has a chance to make the most noise, it would have to be Jake Ganus.

The UAB transfer is already making himself at home, as he’s being very vocal when it comes to making calls and communicating with his teammates, according to 247Sports.

Ganus led the Blazers in tackles the last two seasons, and despite playing in a much more competitive conference this year, he shows no signs of slowing down.

Will he win the inside linebacker spot? It's too early to tell. But there is no doubt he will see a lot of action on the field this upcoming season.

Stock Up: Justin Scott-Wesley

3 of 4

Justin Scott-Wesley returned to action after injuring his ACL last season, but he was not as explosive as he was in 2012 because he is still healing.

Now that it’s spring 2015, Scott-Wesley is looking more explosive than he ever has before. The Camilla, Georgia, native is leaner and looks faster, and he was able to get in and out of his breaks with no issues.

Now, the key for Scott-Wesley is to stay healthy, which will be a challenge. If he’s able to do that, there is no telling how big of a year he will have when it’s all said and done.

Stock Down: Tight Ends

4 of 4

If there is one position that is off to a slow start, it would go to the tight ends. According to 247Sports, Jay Rome did have some good moments in the second day of practice, but the group as a whole had issues holding onto the football.

However, that doesn’t mean the tight ends will be a weakness for the Bulldogs because Rome and Jeb Blazevich have proven they can step up to the plate when they need to. And newcomer Jackson Harris is a guy who has the look and the talent to be a very dangerous player for the Bulldogs. By the end of spring practice, the group should be more complete than what they were in the beginning.
