Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Oscar and Charles Aranguiz Rumours

Tom SunderlandMar 22, 2015

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will look to freshen up his midfield this summer as latest speculation suggests Oscar could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, with Internacional's Charles Aranguiz inbound.

Italian website ClcioNews24 (h/t Daily Star's Alex Harris) has reported Juventus are interested in cutting a deal for playmaker Oscar, and a fee of £29 million has been quoted as an alleged price tag.

The Brazil international has endured something of a rough patch of late, failing to supply the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard with his usual string of ammunition.

Daniel Storey of Football365 illustrates just what a barren spell Oscar has endured, stretching back over the past five games:

Harris reports Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is hoping to revolutionise his attack this summer. However, with Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata already at the Turin club, chance creation may be the concern in need of addressing.

Oscar's fall from grace of late recently led Squawka to debate whether or not the Blues made the right decision to keep Oscar and sell Kevin De Bruyne to Wolfsburg:

One possible explanation behind Oscar's stumbling may simply be burnout; the 23-year-old has played a remarkable amount of football since moving to west London in 2011 for both club and country, with stamina and depletion some chief concerns for one so young.

Irrespective of that, however, Sky Sports correspondent Paulo Freitas believes Oscar will depart Stamford Bridge in the transfer windows to come:

Juve may have the financial power to pull off such a move, but the main issue in this scenario would be whether or not Chelsea are willing to sell an asset once so prized.

Should the South American depart, it would make room for the arrival of Chilean anchor Aranguiz to come into Mourinho's lineup, with Metro's Jamie Sanderson writing that a £4.3 million move is in the works.

Last week, Mourinho was quoted as saying Chelsea's summer won't be busy due to the club not needing many players, adding that a breach of Financial Fair Play is the least of their concerns, per the Mirror's Aaron Flanagan:

"

Our transfer policy doesn’t need a lot of funds because we don’t need a lot of things. We like our squad and we like our players. With a couple of exceptions we have a young squad. Once more our transfer policy will be nice and quiet and will be a consequence of the players we sell.

And we are getting a lot of credibility because we sell good players. You always want to improve so there will be some players moving in and out. But I’m not worried about funds.

"

Aranguiz is most comfortable in central midfield but was one of several Chilean stars to prove their versatility at last year's World Cup, with Jorge Sampaoli's tactics revolving largely around players able to fulfil numerous job roles.

The Mirror's Ed Malyon admits he's been waiting for a Premier League club to notice the player's quality for as long as five years, with the Blues apparently looking to make his wish come true:

As things stand, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic reign as Mourinho's go-to options in the two-man midfield tandem, but competition and elite options are something Mourinho is looking to establish in west London.

Freitas describes the Internacional star as one of the best players featuring in Brazil right now:

At 25 years of age, Arnaguiz still has plenty of years ahead of him, and an extremely modest transfer sum of just over £4 million is all the more reason for Chelsea to see him as a valuable pickup.

Mourinho has spent well to amass arguably one of the best lineups in Europe since arriving back at the Chelsea helm, but strength in depth will be among his highest priorities moving forward.

Aranguiz may be viewed as an upgrade on the likes of Ramires or John Obi Mikel, and his ability to play off the left or right of midfield will only enamour the Chilean further with Mourinho.

If Mourinho is to be believed and a no-frills summer lies ahead at Stamford Bridge, a cut-price move for Aranguiz could be an understated investment with great potential.
