NCAA Scores 2015: How to Track Results and Bracket for Saturday's Round 3 Games

Sean ODonnellMar 21, 2015

Which version of March Madness will we receive on Saturday?

Thursday kicked off the Round 2 action with the usual mixture of big wins from top seeds, down-to-the-wire finishes during highly contested games and some massive upsets leading to the dismissal of a pair of No. 3 seeds. Things changed Friday, as 15 of the day's 16 contests went in favor of the higher-seeded team. No. 11 Dayton was the only underdog to emerge victorious, usurping No. 6 Providence.

Half of the NCAA tournament's round-of-32 games are set to take place Saturday, as the eight-game slate brings No. 1 seeds Wisconsin and Duke into action. After a chalk-filled Friday, we're likely in for an enormous upset over the weekend to restore the unpredictability to the Big Dance.

Top Game to Watch: No. 11 UCLA vs. No. 14 UAB

Could one of these two squads be this year's Cinderella story?

UCLA entered the NCAA tournament on a bit of a hot streak, winning four consecutive games before dropping a very close contest to a strong Arizona team. The Bruins were given a scare by SMU in their Big Dance opener but emerged victorious following a goaltending call on a three-pointer with seconds remaining.

For the most part, the Bruins played well against the Mustangs. Guard Bryce Alford led the way with 27 points, bucketing an incredible 9-of-11 attempts from downtown in the process. Norman Powell put together a fine showing of his own, scoring 19 points while going a perfect 9-for-9 from the line. Kevon Looney didn't put up big points on the day, but he was solid down low, accumulating 10 boards.

As a team, the Bruins shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from three-point range and accumulated 34 rebounds—one more than SMU. The biggest issue for UCLA was ball security, as the team racked up 18 turnovers—a number that would normally lead to a loss.

That must get cleaned up before facing UAB.

Speaking of the Blazers, they may not have a football team anymore, but their basketball team is playing very well right now. Following a win in the Conference USA tournament final, UAB earned a berth in the Big Dance and went on to shock Iowa State in Round 2, emerging victorious by a score of 60-59.

The Blazers are a solid rebounding team—and that showed with 52 on the game—but holding the high-octane Cyclones to just 59 points while shooting 36.9 percent from the floor was simply impressive. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of UAB's defensive effort was its lack of personal fouls, committing just 10 and affording Iowa State only seven free-throw attempts.

UAB shot just 34.8 percent from the floor as a team, but it received a great performance from Robert Brown, who scored a game-high 21 points after hitting 7-of-19 from the floor and all four of his free-throw attempts.

Forward William Lee sparked the team with a huge double-double, putting up 14 points and 12 rebounds. His presence on the interior will go a long way in keeping up with a good rebounding team in UCLA.

Both of these teams match up very well, so expect this one to be decided by one possession. The team with more issues to fix coming into this contest will be sent home early, and due to a lack of perimeter defense and turnover issues, that will be UCLA. This year, UAB is your Cinderella team.

Prediction: UAB 67, UCLA 64
