Baylor vs. Georgia State: Twitter Reacts to Panthers' Dramatic Comeback Win

Timothy RappMar 19, 2015

It took all of three hours for this year's NCAA tournament to provide one of its signature moments.

With 2:54 remaining, Baylor held a 56-44 lead over Georgia State and appeared to be heading to the round of 32. That's when junior guard R.J. Hunter took over, leading Georgia State on a dizzying rally en route to a shocking 57-56 win that featured a dramatic, go-ahead three with seconds remaining. Georgia State's injured head coach, Ron Hunter, fell off of the stool he needed to use after the shot dropped, encapsulating all of the drama you would expect in March.

Seth Davis of CBS Sports has more on the frantic finish:

It was that final shot from Hunter, and his father's reaction on the sideline, that we'll all remember, however. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports passes along the moment:

Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated, meanwhile, thinks Ron Hunter has just entered college basketball lure:

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports agrees:

Brian Hamilton of Sports Illustrated suspects that if R.J. Hunter keeps making such huge shots, it won't end well for his father:

Matt Norlander of CBS Sports summed up the magnitude of the moment:

Hunter spoke about the moment after the game, via Dan Wolken of USA Today:

He also talked about what his team needed to do to beat Baylor, via SportsCenter on Twitter:

And as if he weren't already a star, he also had a little fun taking a playful jab at President Obama, who picked Baylor in his bracket. Lost Letterman shared the moment:

Ron Hunter, America loves you.

And the NBA might love his son just as much, as Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports tweeted:

There was an odd poetic justice to the finish, too. Just consider this excellent tidbit from ESPN Stats & Information:

What comes around goes around, huh?

While Georgia State's furious comeback, the game-winning shot and Ron Hunter falling to the floor are what we'll all remember, the Panthers had a solid game plan coming into the contest and executed it well. They finished with 13 steals and forced the Bears into 21 turnovers. And while the team's top player, R.J. Hunter, struggled throughout, he came up huge at the biggest moment, as stars so often do.

In the end, it was a game that Baylor should have put away, but that would have been a far more boring result, and March isn't about boring results.

Far from it. With two No. 3 seeds and two Big 12 powers eliminated, Baylor and Iowa State, it appears March Madness will be heavy on the madness once again this year.
