NCAA Bracket 2015: Schedule, Updated Predictions Before Wednesday's 1st Round

Sean ODonnellMar 18, 2015

March Madness is in full effect.

Tuesday's play-in games began with a solid performance by Hampton, as the Pirates took down Manhattan 74-64. They'll be rewarded by facing Kentucky in Round 2. The day's second game was especially thrilling, as Ole Miss rallied from a 17-point deficit to take down BYU in a high-scoring affair and advance to the second round.

The remaining First Four games are set to take place Wednesday, as North Florida and Robert Morris are set to compete for the final No. 16 seed, and Boise State takes on Dayton for the right to a No. 11 seed and a Round 2 clash against Providence. Following those contests, the NCAA tournament's field of 64 teams will finally come to fruition.

North Florida vs. Robert Morris

Both North Florida and Robert Morris are on impressive winning streaks, and the team that continues that trend will move on to face Duke in Round 2 of the NCAA tournament. While that will surely be a daunting task, keep in mind the Blue Devils were defeated by Mercer last year and by Lehigh in 2012.

The Ospreys won their last eight games thanks to an offense that averages 75.7 points per game, ranking 25th in the nation. The team relies on the talented backcourt duo of Dallas Moore and Jalen Nesbitt to generate most of its offense while forward Chris Davenport controls the interior.

This well-rounded approach has worked for North Florida this season; however, it has been stifled by better defenses at times. Well, that likely won't matter against Robert Morris, as the Colonials rank 211th in the nation in points allowed.

The biggest element to Robert Morris' success is its depth.

The team boasts four guards (Kavon Stewart, Marcquise Reed, Rodney Pryor and Lucky Jones) capable of putting up big numbers at the drop of a hat, and that was the case in the Colonials' last contest against St. Francis, as they all put up double-digit points. Elijah Minnie has been solid down low this season, but at 6'8", the team's biggest player may not stack up against larger competition.

In a game that should feature plenty of offense—both defenses have not performed well this season—the team that has the ability to stretch the floor and force its opponent to play from behind will emerge victorious. The upper hand here goes to the Ospreys.

Prediction: North Florida

Boise State vs. Dayton

Wednesday's second game includes an interesting element, as Dayton essentially has a home game with these play-in contests taking place in the team's own facilities. Competing in a single-elimination game is difficult enough, but Boise State will also be in hostile territory.

The Broncos played very well down the final stretch of the regular season, finishing on a six-game winning streak. However, after defeating Air Force in the MWC tournament, the team fell to Wyoming in overtime.

Boise State enters this contest with plenty of versatility, as forwards Nick Duncan and James Webb III have controlled the interior, while guard Derrick Marks has been solid from the perimeter; however, the team severely misses guard Anthony Drmic, who was its best offensive playmaker for the majority of the season.

The Flyers come into the game with plenty of confidence. This is an experienced team that went on a phenomenal run in last year's tournament, and its returning players will be able to draw from that experience.

Jordan Sibert and Scoochie Smith continue to play well on the outside, and forwards Dyshawn Pierre and Kendall Pollard, while undersized, form a very athletic duo inside. This well-rounded team's experience and home-court advantage will help propel it to the next round.

Prediction: Dayton
