Anthony Davis Narrowly Misses Quadruple-Double: Stat Line and Twitter Reaction

If the rest of the NBA doesn't yet fear "The Brow," his eruption on Sunday night should do the trick.

New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis has had several mind-boggling performances amid a breakout 2014-15 season, but none quite as well rounded and impressive as his outing against the Denver Nuggets.

Bleacher Report highlighted his final line:

Davis fell three assists and a block short of a quadruple-double, as New Orleans leaned heavily on its uniquely skilled big man but fell short in a 118-111 double-overtime loss at the Smoothie King Center.

Even though the big man didn't meet all four of the double-digit marks, it was still a never-before-seen display of greatness, per The New Orleans Advocate's Scott Kushner:

CBS Sports made a humorous NCAA tournament reference while showing how close Davis was to the quadruple-double even at the end of regulation:

The 22-year-old phenom scored six of his team's eight points in the first overtime, but the Pelicans ran out of gas in the second extra period. Either that, or Davis' shoulders hurt too much from carrying most of the weight.

Zach Harper of CBSSports.com was rather dumbfounded when the Pelicans didn't use Davis on certain possessions late in the game:

Nuggets interim head coach Melvin Hunt had great things to say about Davis even before he torched Denver on the court, via Pelicans.com's Jim Eichenhofer:

If Davis isn't universally recognized as a top-five NBA player yet, that designation should come in no time. The former No. 1 overall draft pick has all of the tools to be a truly transcendent star, and he's shown plenty of signs of being just that already.

It's scary to think what Davis could do as he gains more experience and gets even a marginally upgraded supporting cast. The third-year phenom is almost single-handedly willing New Orleans to stay in the stacked Western Conference playoff picture.

Whether the Pelicans make the postseason cut or not, Davis has laid the groundwork for an amazing next few years. Sunday's epic display was another glimpse into how massive Davis' talent is—and what he might look like once he starts to fully realize his seemingly limitless potential.
