Selection Sunday 2015 Start Time: TV Schedule, Live Streaming for Bracket Reveal
Selection Sunday is the closest thing to a national holiday after the Super Bowl.
It's the day bubble teams burst and head for the NIT dreaming about what could have been, while those in their places perhaps move on into the hearts and minds of a nation as the latest and greatest Cinderella teams.
So it goes each year, although this particular selection spectacle feels a tad different. For the first time in a long time there seems to be no consensus for the four No. 1 seeds. On the other end of the spectrum, notable loss after notable loss makes the bubble seen volatile.

Final Look at Notable Bubble Teams
UCLA (20-13)

The UCLA Bruins' parting shot before Selection Sunday helps their cause.
A 70-64 loss to Arizona in the Pac-12 tournament doesn't doom the Bruins, nor should it after a strong finish to the season by Steve Alford's team. Sure, knocking off the No. 5 team in the land would have been nice, but a narrow loss is better than a blowout loss.
"I like our chances," Alford said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "We're like a lot of people [who are] going to sit and wait. I've been doing this a long time watching throughout the country that there's 31 better at-large teams than what we are."
Some aren't so enthusiastic, such as Yahoo Sports' Jeff Eisenberg:
The argument makes sense from both sides.
UCLA finishes with just one win in eight attempts against the RPI Top 25, per ESPN's RPI profile. A shaky 5-10 mark against the RPI Top 100 doesn't help, either.
But keep in mind that the Bruins ranked 29th in strength of schedule. Given the degree of difficulty and the depth of the Pac-12, it's hard to imagine the Bruins won't sneak into the proceedings.
While inconsistent, the UCLA is a strong sleeper candidate in the bracket, making the Bruins an attractive choice for the selection committee.
Prediction: UCLA makes the tournament
Miami (Florida) (21-12)

Sometimes even the strongest of conferences can't help a bubble team.
As a case in point: The Miami Hurricanes hit on a three-game streak before a 70-63 loss to Notre Dame. It was a gritty performance, but so it goes when a team such as the Fighting Irish connects on 48.8 percent of its shots from the field and shoots better than 40 percent from long range.
Gritty or not, their overarching resume suggests the Hurricanes needed to pull off the upset. Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde put it best:
The near-upset thanks to a second-half surge does little to remedy a seventh-place slot in the ACC's RPI rankings, nor does it fix a 1-7 mark against the RPI Top 25, one that would add just one win if extended to include 25 more teams.
It's a shame, as Sheldon McClellan (14.7 points per game) and Angel Rodriguez (12.2) are one of the more interesting duos to watch this year.
While Hurricanes still figure to be in action this postseason, it's hard to imagine their resume squeaks them into the Big Dance itself.
Prediction: Miami misses the tournament
LSU (22-10)

LSU is impossible to figure out.
Which means Johnny Jones' team will get in, of course.
It's no exaggeration, though: The Tigers are 12-5 against the RPI Top 100. Pretty good, right? Well, they just lost to a 15-win Auburn team in overtime while missing 19 free throws.
Words escape the up-and-down Tigers at this point, but Eisenberg does a great job of painting the picture:
LSU can bang with any team in the bracket. Jarell Martin (16.9 points, 9.2 rebounds per game) is a force down low, but just half of the equation. Jordan Mickey (15.5, 9.8) is the other, helping to form a strong inside-out game capable of chewing the lengthy shot clock.
Now the Tigers just need to make free throws.
In all seriousness, though, LSU figures to be in the bracket. Their two losses to Auburn this year hurt, but if the Tigers get the little things working, they may be one of the biggest surprise teams.
Prediction: LSU makes the tournament
