The Bubble Watch

Every day leading up to Sunday is a crucial one for teams that are on the bubble. Teams like the Ole Miss Rebels have the most fragile hopes of reaching the NCAA tournament, but as Michael Beller of Sports Illustrated points out, the Rebels didn't take care of business when they had the chance.
Beller writes:
"You know what Mississippi really couldn’t do? Lose to South Carolina. That’s exactly what the Rebels did, and now they’re cheering for anyone who plays UCLA, Temple and Tulsa in the rest of the week, as well as against any surprise conference champions.
"
Surprise conference champions mean a regular-season champion will be looked at hard for an at-large bid. That's bad news for bubble teams like the Rebels.
One bubble team that should be OK is the Texas Longhorns. After leading most of the game, they lost 69-67 on a last-second shot against the No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones on Thursday. The Longhorns still have 20 wins, with three coming against ranked opponents.
On the other hand, the team's 8-10 record in their conference gives the committee an excuse to snub them. With an opportunity to almost assure a spot in the NCAA tournament squandered, Texas head coach Rick Barnes kept it positive. Per the Associated Press, via ESPN.com, Barnes said this after the game:
"We just didn't finish it," Barnes said. "I'm proud of my guys."
Junior guard Demarcus Holland added: "We can't control anything right now. We are who we are right now."
All will be revealed come Sunday.
