Conflicting Reports Surround Patterson's Availability
Friday, March 13
Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Minnesota is seeking to ship Patterson out of town because of an apparent inability to grasp the offense:
The Star Tribune's Mark Craig denied that the Vikings are looking to move the talented 23-year-old:
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports also reported that Patterson's agent denies the report.
Patterson saw his production decrease during his second NFL season, as he caught just 33 passes on 67 targets for 384 yards and one touchdown. After returning two kickoffs for scores in 2013, he failed to find the end zone on a return last year.
Bleacher Report's Cian Fahey expressed doubts about Patterson's polish as a pass-catcher, which could drive down his trade value:
"Wouldn't be a surprise if Vikings traded Cordarrelle Patterson. Problem is convincing a team to take a wide receiver who can't run routes.

It would be quite a shock if Minnesota gave up on Patterson so early in his NFL career.
Listed at 6'2" and 220 pounds, the youngster has tremendous upside and has flashed the ability to make explosive plays. The problem has been an inability to create enough separation on routes—something that's also limited his opportunities after the catch, where he's most dangerous.
Whether Patterson is still around or not, promising young Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater may be getting a new weapon with Minnesota picking 11th overall in the upcoming draft.
Nevertheless, with a brilliant play-caller in Norv Turner and a budding star in Bridgewater under center, Minnesota should keep Patterson around as an asset. If the Vikings ultimately want to trade him, it would behoove them to see Patterson perform at a higher level than he's shown early on.
