Sting Is Being Underutilized in His Feud with Triple H

Sebastian MaldonadoMar 13, 2015

No one could ever imagine Sting inside a WWE ring. But here we are, feeling Sting’s presence.

Let’s wind the clock back to last year's Survivor Series on November 23. Triple H assembled the team of Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, Rusev and Luke Harper to take on Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, Big Show, Erick Rowan and Ryback, who were fighting for their jobs—a strategy created by Triple H to protect his control over WWE.

Ziggler managed to be the last member left on Team Cena, defeating Kane and Luke Harper. Ziggler and Rollins were left, as Triple H interfered and hit a Pedigree on Ziggler. All seemed to be lost until crows started playing over the speakers.

Sting, The Icon, made his first appearance on that night, giving Triple H the Scorpion Death Drop and placing Ziggler’s arm over Rollins. The referee made the three-count, and thanks to Sting, Team Cena won.

However, Sting wouldn’t show up until the January 19 edition of Raw, where he distracted Rollins and The Authority, costing them a Handicap match against Cena.

Triple H challenged Sting to show up at Fastlane on February 22. Sting accepted through mind games, using distorted footage and a stand-in on the February 9 episode of Raw. He appeared at Fastlane and dropped Triple H again while challenging him to a match at WrestleMania 31. Triple H accepted, and thus, we will see Sting wrestle in a WWE ring for the first time at WrestleMania.

You’d figure we’d at least see more Icon appearances on Raw. It would make sense to see Triple H harm Sting in person for some kind of retribution. Unfortunately, we’ve seen less of The Icon.

The focus is more on Triple H’s control instead of the upcoming WrestleMania match itself. In fact, in a taped promo, Sting explained his actions, but his voice was altered. Who thought that was a good idea?

Sting is being underutilized in his feud with Triple H.

The buildup should be momentous, considering what Sting represents in the world of professional wrestling. He was the last man from WCW to appear at WWE and a main eventer at the former company.

Sting had a few stints in TNA before coming to WWE, and now he’s only appeared three times, twice on an event and once on Raw, in five months. That’s not a good sign for a feud.

We already have Bray Wyatt carrying his feud with The Undertaker for WrestleMania. We barely see Triple H addressing his problems with Sting.

Make no mistake: Sting isn’t known for his promo work. He needs to address the WWE fans more often in person. That would be far more effective than having him address them in a taped segment.

Granted, you’re not going to have Sting wrestle on Raw yet. His first WWE match should be at WrestleMania.

Yet, WWE Creative risks underexposing Sting. We know Sting will be taking on Triple H. There’s no novelty anymore. He shouldn’t be appearing sporadically, especially with WrestleMania less than three weeks away.

WWE can rectify this, however, by having Sting show up for the next two weeks on Raw. The company can build the hype machine again and maybe have Triple H get the last word in before the inevitable confrontation.

Frankly, it’s the only thing the WWE can do to save this rivalry. Time’s running out for the WWE to make this feud serviceable.

Sting needs to be used more in the next few weeks. Otherwise, this WrestleMania rivalry could be dead on arrival before the match begins.
