8 Players Building the Most Momentum as 2015 Masters Approaches
Perhaps you aren't smelling the azaleas or dreaming of Amen corner yet, but you will be soon. The Masters starts in less than a month.
Many of the tour's best have their games in order as the season's first major approaches. Unfortunately, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are not members of that class.
Who is?
Read on for the full rundown of the nine.
Jim Furyk
1 of 8
Masters odds: 66-1 (via Oddschecker)
2014 Masters finish: T14
How he's building momentum
The PGA Tour's quintessential grinder, Jim Furyk has teed it up three times this season. The veteran has finished no worse than tied for 14th. He tied for 12th his last time out at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. His decision to skip the Hawaii tournaments, rest and prepare for the season looks like a good one at this point.
Henrik Stenson
2 of 8
Masters odds: 25-1
2014 Masters finish: T14
How he's building momentum
It seems Henrik Stenson has headed to the Masters among the favorites the past several seasons. The Swede tied for 13th twice on the European Tour to begin his year and tied for fourth at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. His game looks to be in good shape as we move closer to the Masters, where he's finished inside the top 20 the last two years.
Brandt Snedeker
3 of 8
Masters odds: 25-1
2014 Masters finish: T37
How he's building momentum
Brandt Snedeker looks to be getting his swing in order under new coach Butch Harmon. In his last five starts, Snedeker won once and finished inside the top 20 an additional three times. He'll look to avenge a disappointing tied-for-37th finish at Augusta last season.
Dustin Johnson
4 of 8
Masters odds: 14-1 (via Oddschecker)
2014 Masters finish: Missed cut
How he's building momentum
See the picture above? That's Dustin Johnson with a trophy in his hand—a pretty good indication he's building positive momentum heading toward the first major of the year. DJ has been largely excellent in his return from sabbatical recording three top-10 finishes, including his victory at Doral.
Adam Scott
5 of 8
Masters odds: 14-1
2014 Masters finish: T14
How he's building momentum
Australian Adam Scott has eased his way in the 2014-2015 PGA Tour season. He's only teed it up twice this year and finished inside the top 15 both times, including tying for fourth at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. The 2013 Masters champ enters this year's competition among the favorites and looks like he'll be making the trip to Augusta National without his beloved long putter.
Jordan Spieth
6 of 8
Masters odds: 14-1
2014 Masters finish: T2
How he's building momentum
Jordan Spieth won Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge in convincing fashion at the beginning of December. In his five starts since that point, the 22-year-old recorded three top-10 finishes. He finished tied for 17th at the WGC-Cadillac Championship last week and looks primed to take another run at Augusta National.
Jason Day
7 of 8
Masters odds: 12-1
2014 Masters finish: T20
How he's building momentum
Jason Day captured the Farmers Insurance Open thanks to a gritty final-round 70. He's recorded a total of three top-five finishes in five starts this season and is presently sixth in the FedEx Cup standings. The adoptive Ohioan looks ready to chase the green jacket next month.
Bubba Watson
8 of 8
Masters odds: 14-1
2014 Masters finish: 1
How he's building momentum
Last year's green jacket winner, Bubba Watson is playing good golf in the young 2014-2015 season. Since winning the WGC-HSBC Champions in November, Watson hasn't finished outside the top 15 in a tournament. He had a real shot at winning the WGC-Cadillac Championship before back-nine bogeys sunk his Sunday victory effort.
