Let's All Look at These Ugly 'Selfie' Jerseys Worn by the Columbus Cottonmouths
Lower-tier professional sports teams are the masters of ugly promotional uniform design, but no one rolls out audaciously terrible kits with the consistency of independent league hockey.
Thus we come to the Columbus Cottonmouths, a Southern Professional Hockey League team that debuted a "selfie" jersey Saturday for a tilt against the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
Puck Daddy's Josh Cooper spotted pictures of the jerseys. From afar, they look like ideal camouflage for hunters sitting in a blind made of Dubble Bubble.
Up close, however, you realize the outfit is a collage of fan selfies taken at Cottonmouths games.
Cooper reports that fans have been uploading their selfie entries on social media since October, with the hashtag #snakeselfie (lots of proud snake owners on that tag).
According to Cooper, the jerseys were auctioned off after the game. I hope they went for kingly sums and the proceeds go toward giving the team's social media manager a raise.
It's not easy staying ahead of the ugly jersey game, and to work a Twitter angle into it...well, that's peak #brand synergy.
Dan is on Twitter. He's surprised no one has made a "What color is the dress?" jersey.
