Paris Saint-Germain know what they have to do on Wednesday night against Chelsea in the Champions League. The first objective is to avoid defeat, but they must always find a way to score a goal, which will give Laurent Blanc’s side a chance to advance. However, they know they have to keep Chelsea from scoring at home, and that has yet to happen this season.

Jose Mourinho’s side are the heavy favourites to advance to the quarter-finals. They triumphed last season after PSG had won 3-1 in the opening leg, so at just 1-1 after the game in Paris, the odds are not in the French side's favour.

PSG enjoyed a perfect warm-up for Wednesday’s game, dispatching lowly RC Lens 4-1 at the Parc des Princes. Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to the side after suspension and used the game as a 90 minute-pregame test to find some sharpness.

The Swede had his shooting boots on and tried on numerous occasions to find the back of the net. He couldn’t manage it from open play—making it 10 games without a goal from the field—but he did score his side's second from the penalty spot.

It was clear that the rest had a positive effect on Ibrahimovic, with his lovely flicked assist setting up Javier Pastore for PSG’s fourth. The Argentine playmaker also played well when he came on, pushing for a start on Wednesday, and it showed the two creative forces could combine together. Although Chelsea will be a much tougher test than Lens.

Mourinho’s side definitely have the advantage of not playing this weekend as they are no longer involved in the FA Cup. The London club will have gone nine full days without a game when they walk out onto the Stamford Bridge pitch, and as Ibrahimovic showed on Saturday, the rest can have a wonderful effect.

An intelligent performance from Mourinho’s men should be enough to see them advance. If the defence keeps things tight and puts pressure on the PSG defence, it is hard to see how Blanc’s men pick up the win they need on Wednesday.

3 - Only three teams are still unbeaten in this season’s Champions League : @FCPorto, @ChelseaFC and @realmadrid. Unstoppable.

Predicted Formations

Chelsea: 4-2-3-1: Thibault Courtois; Branislav Ivanovic, Kurt Zouma, John Terry, Cesar Azpilicueta; Nemanja Matic, Ramires; Willian, Francesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard; Diego Costa

PSG: 4-3-3: Salvatore Sirigu; Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Maxwell; Thiago Motta, Blaise Matuidi, Marco Verratti; Javier Pastore, Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Players to Watch

Marco Verratti was superb in the first leg, but he will need to take his game to a whole new level under London's bright lights. PSG won’t enjoy the same level of possession they are used to and will need the Italian to be at his very best when they do get the ball under control, so as not to give it away needlessly.

On the other side, the Chelsea fans will be looking for their own talisman, Eden Hazard, to take this game under his control and guide Chelsea to the next round. In all his time in Ligue 1, the Belgian never quite put PSG to the sword. Wednesday would be the perfect opportunity to show the Ligue 1 side that he has massively improved since he was at Lille.

Key Battle

Back after his two-game suspension, Ibrahimovic made his mark against Lens and will now be looking to turn back the clock and show Stamford Bridge what he is capable of. Last season the Swede missed out on the second leg through injury, Wednesday night is his chance at redemption.

There is a very good chance Mourinho will play his young stud Zouma against the talismanic forward and how the centre-back deals with Zlatan could define the game. They obviously met previously in Ligue 1 and Zouma won the battle but not the war. The young Frenchman kept the striker goalless in their first meeting, but then he was moved to right-back for the game in Paris and Zlatan scored twice.

The stakes are much higher on Wednesday and the winner will likely help his side advance to the quarter-finals.
