Best Potential Feuds for Samoa Joe If Star Signs with WWE
Samoa Joe recently appeared on Chris Jericho's Talk is Jericho podcast, and among the many topics he discussed were some possible negotiations with WWE. Obviously, this set the rumor mill in motion.
Joe has been a fixture of TNA almost since its inception, and he has produced countless incredible matches with many notable names. His feuds with former WWE star Kurt Angle and the currently-in-limbo Christian were some of his best, and his bouts with AJ Styles will always be looked upon as classics.
Joe is no spring chicken in the wrestling world. He started in the business 15 years ago, wrestling for promotions like Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Noah in addition to being a top name in TNA for the majority of his run.
Now that he is gone from TNA and possibly making his way to WWE to fulfill every wrestler's dream of working for the biggest company in the biz, it's natural to start thinking about which Superstars would be logical opponents for the Samoan Submission Machine.
This slideshow will look at some of the best options on the current roster and why they would make ideal opponents for Samoa Joe.
Christian
1 of 5Christian hasn't wrestled in more than a year, and he may end up retiring without a goodbye match if the concussions he suffered led to any permanent issues. However, if he does return for one final program, it should be against Samoa Joe.
These two had some great matches in TNA, and even though WWE will never outright acknowledge a storyline from a different promotion, there's no reason it can't find a way for these two rivals to work together.
Christian is one of those talents who can do just about anything in the ring, and with the skills Joe has accumulated over the years, they could steal any show they want.
Either one of them could play the heel in this scenario, but the smart move would be for Joe to be the bad guy. Christian could act like he is going to announce his retirement, and then Joe could attack him to set in motion their final confrontation.
Joe doesn't have a past with too many WWE stars, so it would be a wise choice to capitalize off the history these two share.
Bray Wyatt
2 of 5Few big men in the business have been able to perform the sort of moves that Joe peppers into every one of his matches, and Bray Wyatt is one of them.
These two big bruisers would destroy each other in the ring, and it would make for one hell of a match. It's not just their size that makes both of them unique, it's their understanding of how to put together a story in the ring.
Wyatt has proved that he can carry a feud with just about anyone thanks to his silver tongue and a great mind for the sport, whereas Joe just walks up to you and punches you in the face. It's a match made in heaven.
Wyatt could be the driving force behind all the promos, while Joe could be the strong, silent type who waits for his moment to strike. Just thinking about how brutal this match would be should make everyone want to see it.
Daniel Bryan
3 of 5One of the few people on the main roster who Samoa Joe has actually fought in the past is Daniel Bryan. They were two of the best talents to ever come out of Ring of Honor, and they had some great encounters.
Watch the video to see these two, along with another familiar face who is currently in NXT, put on a great show at one of ROH's past events.
Bryan has made a career out of taking on men who are much larger than him without looking like an underdog. His incredible skills even the playing field with just about anyone, but if you put him in the ring with a big man who is also highly skilled, it makes things that much more interesting.
Joe has real wrestling chops, and he has proved time and time again that he can do things nobody else his size can accomplish. Don't let his looks or size fool you: Joe can keep up with the best of them.
If WWE wants an instant classic, put these two in a match, sit back and watch the magic happen.
Kevin Owens
4 of 5Kevin Owens is still working his way through the ranks in NXT, but there is little doubt that he will be on the main roster eventually. The fact that he won the NXT Championship within two months of his debut should prove that.
Owens, like Samoa Joe, is someone who doesn't fit the stereotypical view of what a wrestler should look like, and for them, it actually helps. Wrestling needs big, bulky brawlers like these two.
They have been in the ring together before, but it's been a long time since their last encounter. WWE wouldn't need to draw on their past history because they are talented enough to build a fresh program from scratch.
Owens and Joe share a lot of the same qualities. They are both big and strong, but they are also willing to put their bodies on the line for the sake of a risky move that will excite the crowd.
If Joe does sign with WWE, it's likely he will have to put in some time in NXT, which means we could see these two lock up before they ever get to the main roster. If that is the case, then WWE's developmental brand will be able to add another classic encounter to the already large list of great matches it has produced.
Roman Reigns
5 of 5Countless Samoan wrestlers have made names for themselves over the years, and many of them have come from the Anoa'i family.
Joe is not one of them. He might be Samoan, but that is where the similarities end. He is his own man who is making his own legacy in the business, and that is why Roman Reigns is the perfect opponent for him.
Reigns is a well-known member of the Anoa'i family, with his relationship to The Rock being touted on television to help give him a leg up. He is part of wrestling royalty.
There is a natural storyline that could be set in motion between Joe and Reigns that would be easy yet logical. All it would take is Reigns delivering one promo about how important his family is to the people of Samoa and the wrestling business.
Joe comes out, saying he is sick of Reigns' family acting like they are the only Samoans who can wrestle, and the rest writes itself. It's simple, but it makes sense. Joe could play the jealous angle, or he could simply be trying to prove that other Samoans are out there who can throw down with the best of them.
These five men would all make great opponents for Samoa Joe for a number of reasons, but the roster is filled with talented individuals who could also put on a great show with The Samoan Submission Machine. Who would you like to see go one-on-one with the former TNA champion?
