UK Open Darts 2015: Daily Results, Updated Schedule and Prize Money Info
The 2015 UK Open of Darts kicked off on Friday at Butlins Resort Minehead, England, pitting a total of 147 title hopefuls against each other in one of the wildest and most anticipated events on the darts calendar.
With a massive field of contenders, 32 amateur players and no seeded draws, anything is possible. Last year, Phil Taylor was forced to pack his bags after a third-round loss against 22-year-old Aden Kirk, a relatively unknown player who wound up advancing all the way to the last 16.
The Power is one of the favourites to win this year's title, along with defending champion Adrian Lewis and World No. 1 Michael van Gerwen. A total of £300,000 pounds will be up for grabs, with £60,000 reserved for the winner.
Read on for full scores, updated schedules and recaps from Minehead.

Day 3: Semi-Finals, Final Recap
3 of 8
World No. 1 Michael van Gerwen came close to suffering a shock exit during his semi-final against Andrew Gilding, but he recovered to beat Peter Wright in a one-sided final and claim the 2015 UK Open.
The Dutchman needed 18 legs to get past Gilding, who finished the match with a higher average and a better percentage on the checkout, but Mighty Mike was able to keep his composure in the final frames to preserve the win.
Gilding came into the match as the underdog and played like a man with nothing to lose, hitting 10 180s, managing a 10-darter and playing free, aggressive darts.
The duo exchanged blows and didn't give up an inch of space until 7-7, before Van Gerwen took out 62 and 87 on the bull to move within one leg of the final. Gilding answered with a 12-darter, but Mighty Mike played it cool and finished tops to book his spot in the final.
Opponent Wright blew past Stephen Bunting in no time whatsoever, recording a whitewash against an opponent who seemed overwhelmed by his surroundings. Bunting averaged just 82.39 and managed just three chances at the checkout all match, while Snakebite was unleashed.
The flamboyant Scotsman averaged over 105 and had a high finish of 161, underlining his fantastic form and setting up a dream final against Van Gerwen.
The duo met just days ago in a controversial Premier League match, which ended with Wright calling Van Gerwen a "big baby," as reported by Sky Sports.
Fans were anxious to see how Mighty Mike would respond to those comments, and he did so in style. Tied at 3-3 in the final, Van Gerwen came through with an 11-darter and a 164 finish to establish a lead he would never relinquish.
Wright tried to fight back, but the World No. 1 was unleashed at this point, winning the final legs with relative ease. Speaking to PDC.tv after the match, he expressed his love for the game:
"Winning tournaments is the best feeling in the world and this is my second TV title this year and it's been an amazing tournament.
"
The final was really hard but I've played really well on my way to the final, as did Peter. I was a bit nervous but that's part of the game because you don't want to lose a final, and I'm so happy that I hit the winning double.
This is a really big tournament to win and a difficult tournament too, and I'll enjoy this. I love this game, I love playing darts and entertaining the crowds so I hope I can keep doing this.
Van Gerwen now holds the World Grand Prix, European Championship, the Masters and the UK Open titles, and his lead at the top of the Order of Merit just continues to grow.
Darts legend Phil Taylor may be nearing retirement fast, but the sport will be in good hands once the Power decides he has tossed his final dart. Even with a minor elbow injury, Van Gerwen remains as close to unbeatable as you can get.
Day 3: Quarter-Finals Recap
4 of 8
Five-time UK Open champion Phil Taylor ran into an unleashed Peter Wright on Sunday, as Snakebite battled his way past the Power to the semi-finals with a 10-6 win. Michael van Gerwen had no such issues against Devon Petersen, and he now becomes the favourite for this year's title by default.
Wright has been in fantastic form since his Premier League draw against Van Gerwen and powered his way past former UK Open champion Raymond van Barneveld on Saturday, so Taylor knew what he was in form during Sunday's afternoon session.
The Power averaged a ridiculous 118 through the first four legs but suffered two consecutive breaks in the latter half of the match. Snakebite saw his chance and remained cool on the doubles, upsetting Taylor in a fast and furious match.
Van Gerwen continues to cruise after looking shaky in his third-round matchup, showing no signs whatsoever his elbow is troubling him. Petersen was his latest victim in the quarter-finals, the recipient of a 10-5 beating, with Mighty Mike sporting an average of 106.65.
The Dutchman wowed the crowd with a 160 finish and hit over 50 percent on his doubles, sensational numbers that will blow just about any opponent out of the water.
To his credit, Petersen gave it his all in his first ever UK Open quarter-final, and the South African could have led 2-0 had it not been for four misses on the doubles. He kept pace with the World No.1 until 4-4, but one crucial miss on single 11 broke the match wide open.
In the blink of an eye, Van Gerwen had ran out to an 8-4 lead, showing exactly why he's regarded as one of the very best in the sport.
Stephen Bunting's 10-6 win over Mervyn King looked very similar, as the duo went toe-to-toe until 5-5 before Bunting broke free, partly thanks to King's sudden struggles on the doubles.
Speaking to PDC.tv after the match, Bunting said he always knew their battle was going to be a close one:
"I felt that the game would be the toss of a coin, and I'm just glad to get over that hurdle. I've played Mervyn a few times now and he's always had the upper hand, so I'm glad to get that monkey off my back.
"
I'm feeling confident now and there's no reason why I can't win this title. I believe that I can and my game's there so it's just about doing it on that stage tonight.
Bunting and Wright will go head-to-head in the first semi-final, before Van Gerwen takes on Andrew Gilding. The final of the 2015 UK Open will take place immediately after the semi-finals during Sunday's evening session.
Day 2: Evening Session Recap (Round 5)
5 of 8
The fifth round of the 2015 UK Open didn't produce any real upsets of note, but favourites Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor both made huge statements with dominant wins, signaling they're rounding into form at just the right time.
World No. 1 Van Gerwen beat Belgium's Kim Huybrechts 9-2, sporting a personal best average of 114.91 along the way. Mighty Mike was simply fantastic, landing nine 180s, a 170-finish and coming within a single dart of a nine-darter.
Double 12 killed his chances, but he came very, very close. To see just how close, click here.
Huybrechts was in fine form himself, but there was no stopping Van Gerwen. The 170 checkout was undoubtedly the highlight of his night, and as he told PDC.tv, he knows full well what kind of form he's in:
"I felt great and I'm really happy because I played some fantastic darts. When you're playing like this you really enjoy the game and I'm loving it at the moment.
"
The nine-darter would have been nice and I'm so gutted that I missed the double 12 - I didn't think I could miss it but maybe it will come in the next game.
I know I can do great things up there and I can do a lot more on Sunday, but for now I want to enjoy this win.
Mighty Mike will play Devon Petersen in the quarter-finals, the South African beating Eddie Dootson 9-3. Peterson has played very steady darts so far, but on paper, Van Gerwen came away with one of the easier matchups in the draw.
Taylor needed just one more leg than Van Gerwen to get the job done against Dutchman Vincent van der Voort, and the Power looked every bit as in-form as his main rival.
He ended his match with an average of 111.67, but his nine doubles on just 13 attempts show just how dominant his performance was. Like Van Gerwen, Taylor was in superb form on Saturday, and he would like to carry that momentum into his tricky quarter-final match against Peter Wright.
Snakebite is in the form of his life and dispatched of John Henderson in no time at all, surrendering just two legs on his way to the next round.
All three remaining rounds will be played on Sunday, with the semi-final draw made immediately after the final match of the afternoon session, between Taylor and Wright.
Day 2: Afternoon Session Recap (Round 4)
6 of 8
Major surprises were kept to a minimum during Round 4 of the 2015 UK Open, although a number of title hopefuls were eliminated during the afternoon session, including two-time winner Raymond van Barneveld.
The Dutchman was given a difficult draw against Peter Wright, but his performance was well below standards, losing 9-1.
Michael van Gerwen bounced back from the elbow injury he suffered on Friday to beat Paul Hogan 9-4, starting things off with a 12-darter and a 129 finish to signal his arm was just fine.
Qualifier Hogan put in a strong showing, but Mighty Mike was nearly untouchable for most of the match, finishing 115 on the bull to move to 6-3 and cruising to a win from there.
Phil Taylor averaged a ridiculous 107327, including seven 180s and twice hitting three perfect darts to move past youngster David Pallett.
The Power is looking for his sixth UK Open title, and a 9-3 win in the fourth round was exactly what he needed after last year's debacle.
Among the top upsets of the session were Eddie Dootson's 9-8 win over Robert Thornton, Devon Petersen's 9-6 triumph over Jamie Caven and William O'Connor's 9-6 win over Ian White.
Looking ahead at the evening session, fans will be in for a treat when the fifth round resumes. Van Gerwen will take on Belgium's Kim Huybrechts in a clash that could break local decibel records, Taylor faces in-form Vincent van der Voort and Mervyn King will go head-to-head with Kyle Anderson.
Day 1: Evening Session Recap
7 of 8
World No. 1 Michael van Gerwen and 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor both won their first match with relative ease, but an elbow injury for Mighty Mike cast a dark cloud over his third-round matchup.
Current World Champion Gary Anderson had an early exit, losing to Mervyn King after a thrilling decider.
Van Gerwen hasn't enjoyed the greatest start to his 2015 campaign, and Friday's encounter with Paul Nicholson was no different. The Dutchman predictably dominated the match from the opening throw but started clutching his elbow halfway through, and his play deteriorated quickly.
Mighty Mike is one of the more expressive players on the circuit, but it was obvious the grimaces were real. His doubles in particular started to take a hit, evidenced by his final finish, where he needed four darts to seal the match.
Speaking to the PDC's official Twitter feed, he confirmed the injury felt very real:
MVG INJURY: "I think I pulled a muscle in my arm in the 6th or 7th leg and I'll have to get it checked out." #UKOpen pic.twitter.com/8ozn5Fqzvf
— PDC Darts (@OfficialPDC) March 6, 2015
The Power had no such issues, easily overcoming John Ferrell 9-2 to get his UK Open campaign started. The veteran has been somewhat of a slow starter at the tournament in past years, famously dropping the third round in 2014, but he looked as sharp as ever on Friday.
So did Andrew Gilding and Wes Newton, who both recorded whitewashes over Kevin Painter and Jason Mold, respectively.
Anderson ended the 2014 season on a high, winning his first world title, but a tough draw against the King saw him exit the UK Open at the first hurdle, losing 9-8.
Simon Whitlock suffered a similar fate, losing 9-6 against 2012 champion Robert Thornton. The Australian averaged a very respectful 93 but once again failed on the doubles, something that has become a real problem for the Wizard.
All eyes will be on Van Gerwen's elbow when he takes to the stage on Saturday, providing he decides to play in the first place. If the doctor's advice on the injury is negative, it makes no sense to put your arm through two sessions per day, even if the UK Open is one of the top tournaments on the calendar.
Day 1: Afternoon Session Recap
8 of 8
Fans didn't have to wait long to see the first major upset of the 2015 UK Open, as Dean Winstanley lost on the main stage during the afternoon session, 5-3 to William O'Connor.
The duo traded blows until the Irishman upped the pace tied at 3-3, impressing on the bull with a number of impressive finishes. His 130 certainly stole the cake, and with Winstanley struggling to find the doubles with any consistency, the upset didn't take long to materialise.
Kyle Anderson nearly suffered a similar fate on the main stage, needing a decider to take down Terry Temple in the first match of the second round.
Belgium's Ronny Huybrechts also failed to make it out of the second round, losing 5-3 to unknown Lee Evans. The brother of Kim Huybrechts made the last 32 last year but struggled throughout the 2014 season, and a poor start to the new campaign is an ill omen.
The rest of the ranked players all made it through Round 2 safely, but with the top stars in the sport entering the tournament in Round 3, we'll undoubtedly see some of the favourites fall soon.
The third-round draw features several enticing matchups: Simon Whitlock and Robert Thornton will undoubtedly entertain the crowd, while defending champion Adrian Lewis had the misfortune of being drawn with two-time winner Raymond van Barneveld, the highlight of the round.
Lewis has stumbled out of the gate in 2015, and he needs a solid result at the UK Open to build some momentum for the Premier League season. He spoke to Sky Sports about the unique nature of the event and what it means to him:
"I'm looking forward to the UK Open and hopefully I can retain the title. It's such a challenging tournament and the last day, where you play three matches is tough.
You've got to make sure that you prepare right and eat the right things to keep you going through the day, but I've got to make it to the last day first.
It's the FA Cup of Darts and I could draw Phil (Taylor) or Michael (van Gerwen) in the first round or anybody. I can beat anybody and lose to anybody on my day and that's the magic of this event.
"
Michael van Gerwen will take on Paul Nicholson, while Phil Taylor opens against John Ferrell.
