India vs. West Indies: Winners and Losers from Cricket World Cup Match

Chris TealeMar 6, 2015

India took a less-than-straightforward win over the West Indies in their latest Cricket World Cup Pool B game by a margin of just four wickets.

Chasing a low target, it was not an easy victory for the Indians, but it means their winning streak in the World Cup is now at eight games, equalling their longest winning run.

Now this game is at an end, let’s take a look back at the winners and losers.

Winner: Mahendra Singh Dhoni

1 of 6

Mahendra Singh Dhoni presided over yet another win for India, took two catches behind the stumps and top-scored with the bat as he made an unbeaten 45.

Having also hit the winning runs, it is fair to say this was a pretty successful day for India captain Dhoni.

Loser: Chris Gayle

2 of 6

At the other end of the spectrum, Chris Gayle looked in especially bad touch for the West Indies at the top of the batting order.

He made 21 from 27 balls in a tortured innings, and his inability to run singles speaks volumes of his current fitness problems.

Winner: Ravichandran Ashwin

3 of 6

It was another strong performance for Ravichandran Ashwin, who took one wicket in nine relatively economical overs and then looked handy with the bat.

India were wobbling at 134 for six when he came in, but his calm 16 not out from 32 balls helped them over the line with no further losses.

Loser: Marlon Samuels

4 of 6

Another West Indian batsman to look especially poor was Marlon Samuels, who made two from seven balls before being run out.

He was not the only guilty party in his dismissal, but his lack of communication with Gayle will be especially galling for the man at three.

Winner: Jason Holder

5 of 6

One West Indian to show himself in good light was captain Jason Holder, who appears to be trying to keep his head while all about him lose theirs.

He made 57 from 64 balls to drag his side somewhere close to respectability, and although he went wicketless, his performances continue to be strong.

Loser: Dwayne Smith

6 of 6

With Gayle struggling, fellow opener Dwayne Smith needed to be on song, and he failed to deliver the goods once again.

He made six from 20 balls, of which four of his runs came from a boundary, and with Gayle, he seemed unable to get the scoreboard moving.
