Cricket World Cup 2015: Updated Tournament Stats After India vs. West Indies

Nick AkermanMar 6, 2015

Mohammed Shami's spell of three for 35 helped India to record a four-wicket victory over the West Indies on Friday, allowing the side to maintain control of Pool B.

Shami was among the day's top performers, confidently restricting the West Indies' most prolific run-scorers to set up victory. MS Dhoni's knock of 45 helped India reach their target, while Jason Holder's knock of 57 can be counted as the bright spark for the defeated team.

Read on to find how the day's play has affected a plethora of individual stats rankings.

Standout Performers

Shami Blitz Sends India on Their Way

While India's triumph against the West Indies on Friday was largely due to a team effort, Mohammed Shami was the man who propelled the nation to victory with his destruction of the top order.

He finished with figures of three for 35, dismissing Dwayne Smith (6) and Chris Gayle (21), before ending Darren Sammy's stand on 26. Shami set the pace early, toying with the West Indies' big-hitters to immediately provide India with a foothold in the match.

Gayle couldn't believe what he was witnessing, per Fox Sports:

"

What the...? Chris Gayle's eyes bulge after he's beaten by a Shami beauty! http://t.co/zjNJIkUMD7 pic.twitter.com/lTN8NIbGdM

— FOX SPORTS Cricket (@FOXCricketLive) March 6, 2015"

Vijay Television tweeted a snapshot of Shami's performance:

"

As of now, Shami is the star performer with 3 for 35 holding an economy of 4.38! http://t.co/cBkSFnO6UI

— Vijay Television (@vijaytelevision) March 6, 2015"

Although he was backed up by healthy figures from Ravindra Jadeja (two for 27), Shami provided the West Indies with no time to settle on a hard pitch. This was vital after the Caribbean side elected to bat, quickly disrupting the rhythm of a team who continue to fall short.

Captain Jason Holder deserves some recognition for the West Indies after grabbing 57 from 64 balls, including seven boundaries, per BBC Sport. He was largely responsible for the 51-run partnership with Jerome Taylor (11) and, indeed, dragged West Indies back toward a slither of hope.

His performance underlined how, if the West Indies' top order can all perform, there's quality to back them up later on. Although the team are sure to be frustrated with their constant ability to come up short, Holder at least reiterated he is a responsible leader.
