The final day of Crufts 2015 was slightly overshadowed by an equally sensational and disturbing event. It concerned the apparent poisoning of an Irish Setter, three-year-old Theandara Satisfaction.
The dog, also known as Jagger, appeared to be the victim of a deliberately malicious act, according to the results of an initial postmortem. A report from Dog World provided some early details: "A post-mortem examination has revealed various poisons had been put in cubes of meat. A full toxicology report is awaited."
Jagger is owned by Belgian Aleksandra Lauwers and Dee Milligan-Bott. The latter couldn't fathom that a fellow competitor and dog lover would be responsible, per BBC.co.uk: "We compete week-in, week-out against each other and we have one thing in common, we all love dogs. I think and hope it was a random act by someone who hates dogs, an opportunist."
The same report indicates that event organisers, The Kennel Club, will co-operate with the police investigation.
Events still went ahead and the Toy group saw Maltese Sasha Baron Colen take first place. Pekingese Ooh Aah Cantona propped up the group in fourth.
Earlier, Michandy JW won the Poodle-heavy Utility group.
Finally, the Best in Show saw a moment of event history. That was thanks to an American-bred Scottie Terrier, with Russian owners, who became the first of that breed to win the Best in Show for 86 years, per the Dog World official Twitter feed.
That brought to a close an event that may be remembered more for its late controversy than the way the winners wowed the crowds in Birmingham.

McVan's To Russia From Love scooped the big prize in the terrier class and will now feature in Sunday's overall final.
The McVan kennel is based in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A. and have been breeding Scottish Terriers since 1982.
To Russia With Love recently won best in breed at the Westminster Dog Show in New York, showing the unmistakable class of the bitch.
Also known as "Knopa," the Scottish Terrier was widely tipped to perform well at Crufts and deservedly took the title to add to her burgeoning reputation as one of the world's finest examples.
Knopa swept the board in 2014, winning eight all breed best in show titles around the world, including 99 best in breed awards, per McVanScotties.com
The bitch is due to return to her owners in Moscow, Russia to retire.
The hound category was captured by the fine looking Saluki named Qirmizi Ovation.
Born and raised in Sweden by the Eriksson family, the dog performed beautifully at Crufts and ran away with the all breed title.
The final day of proceedings takes place on Sunday, where the overall winner of Crufts will be crowned.

There were no surprises in the Working Group category on Day 2 of Crufts 2015, as Chayo My Prerogative—or Bart—took home top honours and qualified for Sunday's final with relative ease.
As outlined by the official website of Bart's kennel, the Alaskan Malamute has been winning prizes all over the United Kingdom the past few years, becoming the youngest UK Malamute champion in the process.
Dog World managed to take a photo of the proud winner after the contest, and his calm demeanor clearly shows how comfortable he is with these kind of mass events:

Leonberger Namapulan Bling Smack Chap SEJW-13 SEW-14 NOW-14 NORDW-14 took second place, while Costog Mompessons Home Bru completed the podium.
Victory Wind's Ghost Whisperer for Snowmead traveled all the way from France to claim victory in the Pastoral group, a fantastic result for the Bearded Collie who fell well short of expectations during last month's Southern Counties Club Champ Show, via beardedcollieclub.co.uk.
The three-year-old made a tremendous impression on the judges with an immaculate coat, the silver nearly reflecting the lights of the main stage.
The competition had little chance, with Vi'skaly's Harlem Shake finishing as reserve and German Shepherd Veneze Ellie coming in as an unexpected third.
The fans will get to see some of the local favourites in action on Saturday, as the Terrier and Hound groups take to the stage, ahead of the grand finale on Sunday.

Gundog Results
| Place | Dog | Breed | Owner |
| 1. | Castlerock Simply Magic | Retriever (Flat Coated) | Miss A Dyren |
| 2. | Ice Maiden | Pointer | Mrs A G Siddle |
| 3. | Aeron Magregor | Spaniel (Welsh Springer) | Mr J S Thirlwell |
The spotlight was on the gundogs on the opening day in Birmingham, and it was Anette Dyren’s Castlerock Simply Magic—also known as “Dublin”—who was named best of the group in what has always been a notoriously competitive category.
The flat-coated retriever ousted Ice Maiden and Aeron Magregor—who finished in second and third, respectively—to take the prize, with judge Chris Atkinson putting the proud-looking pooch into contention for the Best in Show award come Sunday evening.
As we can see here, courtesy of BBC’s Clare Balding, the handsome retriever even managed to get a close-up of the coveted trophy, with his gundog accolade clutched tightly between his teeth, no less:

While Dublin took the first and only major category to be decided on Day 1, perched on the podium alongside Dyren, it’s difficult not think he has a fine chance of winning the big one come Sunday. But both dog and owner can put their respective paws and feet up over the next couple of days knowing their job is done.
It’ll be intriguing to see whether any of the other breeds can match Dublin; we’ll surely get a firm indicator when the working and pastoral dogs take to the iconic green carpet on Day 2.
