Kyle Coetzer Sets New Record, SA Won't Rush Vernon Philander & More from Day 20

Antoinette MullerMar 5, 2015

Thursday's World Cup action consisted of just one match, with Bangladesh overcoming a spirited Scotland in an epic chase. Bangladesh clinched a six-wicket win with 11 balls still remaining as they chased down 319.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first, and Scotland's Kyle Coetzer scored 156, the highest World Cup score by any batsman from a current non-Test-playing nation. He also picked up another infamous record.

Bangladesh had a record of their own, with Tamim Iqbal's 95 becoming the most runs for a Bangladesh batsman in a World Cup game. The defeat meant that Scotland has become the first team eliminated from the World Cup. They are without a win after four matches, and there is no way back from here.

Elsewhere, South Africa have said they will not be rushing Vernon Philander back from injury, which means Kyle Abbott will most likely retain his place in the side, as per ESPNCricinfo

Sri Lanka have had some bad news after batsman Dimuth Karunaratne was ruled out of the tournament with a broken finger, also as per ESPNCricinfo. Sri Lanka have requested Seekkuge Prasanna as a replacement and will have to wait for the ICC technical committee to approve the change.

Shot of the Day

Of course the shot of the day came from the bat of Scotland’s Kyle Coetzer. He brought up his century with a six over long on, picking up a delivery from outside off and slamming it over the ropes. Scotland might have lost in the end, but Coetzer still earned a consolation man of the match award.

Delivery of the Day

As the scores would suggest, the bowling in the Bangladesh vs. Scotland game didn’t exactly blow anybody’s hair back. That means picking the delivery of the day requires a bit of left field thinking.

The honour goes to Iain Wardlaw. Bangladesh's Mahmudullah was forced to limp off the field after he got pinned full on his toe, trying to back away and creating room on the off side. The bowler saw it early enough to follow him with the delivery, with this going off the toe and then going on strike the base of the stumps right after.

Those who appreciate a good yorker will appreciate the delivery, while those who believe in such a thing as luck will think the batsman just got really unlucky.

Catch of the Day

While the bowlers struggled, the fielders tried their best to impress. There were a number of good efforts in the field, but catch of the day goes to Mushfiqur Rahim for his take off Taskin Ahmed to dismiss Richie Berrington for 26. Berrington mishit the ball, and it went straight up into the air. Mushfiqur had to run back to his left and nabbed a good catch.

What Friday holds

Day 21's action will see India take on West Indies at 6:30 GMT. West Indies are under the cosh after losing two of their four games. They are still sitting pretty at third place.
