Liverpool vs. Burnley: Winners and Losers from Premier League
ANFIELD—Liverpool produced a professional performance to comfortably see off Burnley 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge either side of half-time secured the three points as Brendan Rodgers' side controlled the game throughout.
The home side were denied a place among the coveted top four due to Ashley Young's late winner for Manchester United at Newcastle, but Rodgers won't be concerned by that as his side extended their unbeaten run to 12 Premier League games.
Rodgers said he was "delighted by the performance and result" post-match.
It's now six wins from seven for the Reds, who face Blackburn Rovers next in the FA Cup quarter-final.
For the visitors, Sean Dyche's side continue their run of games without a win—now eight—and they're still yet to score a goal against Liverpool in the Premier League.
Here are the winners and losers from the match.
Winner: Jordan Henderson
1 of 5
A superb goal, a perfect assist, Jordan Henderson was comfortably Liverpool's man of the match.
He followed up his powerful strike against Manchester City four days ago with another blockbuster strike from the edge of the area, this time lacing a half volley past Tom Heaton in the Burnley goal.
"Henderson has ripped another 20 yard bullet into the net to give Liverpool the lead.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 4, 2015"
The style with which he stuck the ball was similar to a certain Steven Gerrard's goal against Olympiakos a decade ago.
The assist for Sturridge in the second half was just as impressive, curling a cross from deep on to the England forward's head. His seventh assist of the season.
"Jordan Henderson is joint sixth in the PL assists chart and only two of the five players ahead of him have scored more goals than him too.
— Andrew Beasley (@BassTunedToRed) March 4, 2015"
Aside from the goal and assist, Henderson's game exuded class; intelligent play in midfield, controlling the tempo and playing defence-splitting passes almost at will.
Henderson has really taken on the responsibility of the captain's armband in recent weeks and led his side again here.
Loser: Burnley's Travelling Fans

While Liverpool continued their superb form, Burnley's miserable away record continued.
The Clarets have only one away win all season, a 2-1 victory at Stoke City back in November, and in truth never looked like picking up a first away win of 2015 at Anfield.
After an entertaining and end-to-end opening, Liverpool gained control and Burnley failed to have any attacking output.
Ashley Barnes dropped deeper, leaving Danny Ings isolated and chasing shadows against Liverpool's back three.
Winner: Daniel Sturridge
3 of 5
Daniel Sturridge could easily have been in the other category on Wednesday night, but his second-half header ensures he's a winner from this match.
Sturridge's header from Henderson's cross six minutes after the interval was nicely timed, arriving before the 25-year-old's confidence was dented any more after a pretty torrid first 45 minutes.
That first half saw Sturridge miss a one-on-one chance with Heaton and a few other half chances, including one where he turned his back on the ball thinking the chance had gone, only for it to fall to him six yards out.
As it happens, that's Sturridge's first goal in a game he's started since returning from injury, his only other coming as a substitute on his comeback game against West Ham United at the end of January.
Loser: Steven Gerrard
4 of 5
How Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard gets back into this is looking less and less likely by the game.
Joe Allen continued in midfield alongside Henderson, and the Welshman was again excellent after his impressive performance against Manchester City on Sunday.
Rodgers played all of his attacking players with Sterling starting out wide and Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho behind Sturridge. And all of them are in form.
Gerrard is expected to be back fit for the FA Cup tie with Blackburn, but there's no place for him in the starting XI.
Winner: Danny Ings
5 of 5
It was a tough night for potential future Liverpool player Danny Ings, who cut an isolated figure up front for the Clarets.
The 22-year-old did look good with his dribbling on the rare occasion he had opportunities, and his attempts to press the Liverpool defence didn't go unnoticed. Indicative of his hard work was the sight of him sat cramping in the Liverpool penalty box.
When he was substituted in the final minutes, he received a polite applause from Anfield's Main Stand observers, anticipating a summer arrival for the former Championship player of the year.
