After being soundly beaten by India and West Indies, Pakistan stuttered to a 20-run victory against Zimbabwe on Sunday and will look for their third win in a week against South Africa on Saturday.
On what is considered the best batting pitch in New Zealand, Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail and Misbah-ul-Haq all scored half-centuries.
After the departure of Nasir Jamshed (4) in the fourth over, Shehzad (93) and Sohail (70) put on 166 for the second wicket before both departed in the space of nine balls.
Pakistan were 176-3 at the start of the 35th over but finished strongly with Sohaib Maqsood (45), skipper Misbah (65) and Shahid Afridi (21) all hitting two sixes, although Manjula Guruge picked up late wickets to finish with 4-56.
In just their second appearance at the World Cup, UAE stuttered to 25-3 at the end of the powerplay with two early wickets for Sohail Khan.
Shaiman Anwar, who had already scored a hundred against Ireland, a half-century against Zimbabwe and 35 against the reigning world champions India, continued his fine form and put on 83 with Khurram Khan (43).
The Pakistan-born batsman made 62 but when he became the first of Afridi’s two victims in the 39th over, the required run rate was over 16 per over.
Amjad Javed made a quickfire 40 but it was in vain as UAE slipped to their fourth consecutive defeat.
Meanwhile Pakistan fans continue to dream and draw comparisons with the 1992 World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand when Imran Khan's team only won one of their opening five games before winning five in a row to claim the title.
