South Africa Smash 411 Runs En Route to Simple Victory over Ireland
3 of 3
South Africa (411/4) bt. Ireland (210) by 201 runs.
Hashim Amla fired 159 runs, including 16 fours and a quartet of sixes, to lead South Africa beyond Ireland in Tuesday's only clash.
Despite losing Quinton De Kock (1) with the score on 12, the might of South Africa shone through against an Irish bowling attack who found less answers as play wore on. South Africa won the toss and elected to bat, setting the second-highest ever World Cup score, missing out on India's record of 413—which they set against Bermuda in 2007—by just two runs.
Amla tormented the opposition before eventually being dismissed by Andy McBrine (2-63) with just eight overs remaining. The damage was done, however, as Amla enjoyed a 242-run partnership with Faf du Plessis, who scored 109 runs of his own.
You can see Du Plessis reach his ton below, per Sky Sports:

Du Plessis was dismissed by Kevin O'Brien (1-95) with South Africa's total standing at 259/2. Amla's wicket then fell on 299. AB De Villiers was unable to follow his heroics against the West Indies—in which he whacked 162 from 66 balls—with a headline-grabbing score, but his 24 was useful enough before David Miller (46) and Rilee Rossouw (61) were able to pick up the slack.
The duo produced a partnership of 107 when the 50 overs ticked over, working incredibly hard to push South Africa's score into unreachable territory. Supporters enjoyed an acceleration of runs at the end of the innings, as the nation racked up their last three half-centuries in 20, 29 and 22 balls, respectively.
Sky Sports highlighted the speed of Rossouw's individual 50:

Ireland needed to work quickly and efficiently with the bat to stand any chance. Unfortunately, Dale Steyn (2-39) and Kyle Abbott (4-21) had other ideas.
The former dismissed Paul Stirling (9) on review, moments after he escaped a similar situation. Snicko confirmed Stirling's departure with Ireland's score at 17/1, per Sky Sports:

William Porterfield (12) and Ed Joyce (0) then lost their wickets to Abbott and Steyn before Niall O'Brien (14) fell to the former. Abbott grabbed his third wicket with the dismissal of Gary Wilson (0), all but ending Ireland's chances with the score at 48/5.
Andrew Balbirnie put up a quality 58, hitting seven boundaries from 71 balls. Morne Morkel (3-34) ended his stand with Ireland's total at 129/6, before De Villiers got in on the action to dismiss John Mooney (8). Abbott returned to bowling duties shortly after with the wicket of Kevin O'Brien, who was two short of a half-century when he left with Ireland's total score at 168/8.
McBrine was the last man in after Morkel grabbed the wicket of Max Sorensen (22). Moments later, Morkel bowled George Dockrell (25) to end a slow, painful match for the Irish.
