Notre Dame Football Recruiting Offers of the Week

Mike MonacoMar 1, 2015

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — With the Notre Dame football coaching staff finally nearly official, the Irish coaches were busy at work offering scholarships, honing in on the defensive side of the ball.

Each week, we’ll be keeping tabs on the new scholarship offers sent out by the Notre Dame coaches, tracking the recruiting process as the Irish turn their attention toward the classes of 2016, 2017 and maybe even 2018.

In a week in which the Irish offered four defensive backs, 2016 3-star cornerback Roderick Campbell reported a Notre Dame offer Wednesday:

Campbell is the No. 48 cornerback and No. 537 player in the class of 2016. The St. Louis native has also landed offers from Duke, Illinois and Kentucky, among others, according to Irish247’s Tom Loy.

Loy noted that Campbell attended Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion camp last summer, hoping to receive an offer.

“I’m so excited right now,” Campbell told Loy. “[Irish assistant coach Bob Elliott] said that Brian Kelly signed off on it and that he really wanted me on board at Notre Dame.”

Per Loy, Campbell said Notre Dame, Indiana and Duke are the three schools “on top” at this stage:

Jarrett Guarantano

Notre Dame already landed one New Jersey native quarterback in class of 2015 signee Brandon Wimbush. On Wednesday, the Irish offered another in 2016 4-star Oradell, New Jersey product Jarrett Guarantano:

Guarantano is slotted as the No. 6 pro-style signal-caller in the country and the No. 99 overall recruit. The 6’4”, 200-pounder has also reported offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama and UCLA, among others.

Guarantano told 247Sports’ Ryan Bartow that Irish head coach Brian Kelly made the verbal offer and added, “It’s a program I grew up liking because of Touchdown Jesus and Rudy.”

Mecole Hardman

Georgia native and 2016 4-star athlete Mecole Hardman reeled in an offer from Notre Dame on Wednesday:

Notre Dame is recruiting Hardman, the No. 103 prospect in the country, as an athlete with the ability to play wide receiver or cornerback at the next level, according to Loy.

Hardman said his top two schools are Georgia and Tennessee but noted that Notre Dame “is definitely a school I’m going to consider and hopefully visit soon.” Hardman attended Georgia’s junior day last weekend and took an unofficial visit to Tennessee in November.

Justin Madubuike

Notre Dame continued its defensive emphasis last week by offering 2016 defensive end Justin Madubuike on Friday:

Madubuike checks in as the No. 6 strong-side defensive end and No. 108 overall recruit. A 6’3”, 245-pounder from McKinney, Texas, Madubuike also holds offers from USC, Michigan, Auburn, Alabama and Texas, among others.

Madubuike piled up 75 tackles and 16.5 sacks as a junior at McKinney North. As Rivals.com's Andrew Ivins notes, Madubuike is the first Texas player to receive a scholarship offer since the departure of former Irish assistant coach Kerry Cooks, who had built up relationships in the Lone Star State.

Troy Warner

Notre Dame set the pace in a busy week for 3-star 2016 cornerback Troy Warner, offering the California native Wednesday. Warner landed an offer from Utah later that day and received another from San Jose State on Friday:

Warner’s previous offer list included just Boston College and BYU. The 6’0", 185-pounder is the No. 33 cornerback and No. 348 player in his class.

Loy said Warner “has the range, size, speed, ball skills and overall length to be an outstanding safety at the next level.”

According to Irish Sports Daily, Warner said he’s “pretty sure” he’ll visit Notre Dame this summer:

Joejuan Williams

Notre Dame kicked off a busy recruiting week by offering 2016 4-star cornerback Joejuan Williams on Monday:

The No. 14 cornerback and No. 144 player in the class, Williams also has offers from Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida and Ohio State, among others.

According to 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, Williams said Notre Dame might be in his top group of schools after speaking with Irish assistant coaches Mike Elston and Todd Lyght.

The Nashville, Tennessee product plays for the Irish at Father Ryan High School, where Notre Dame practiced before the Music City Bowl victory over LSU in December.

“Everyone in my school loves Notre Dame,” Williams told Wiltfong.
