Sunday Recap
Liverpool took a massive bound toward the Premier League's top four on Sunday thanks to their 2-0 triumph at fellow European hopefuls Southampton.
Ronald Koeman's side failed to score at home for the second game in succession as Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling fired the Reds to victory, with the former's spectacular opener earning the praise of the Press Association's Simon Peach:
As Michael Cox of The Guardian detailed, Southampton were by no means out of the fixture, but Liverpool showed their improved attacking attitude with some efficient conversion up front:
The result sees Brendan Rodgers' climb within two points of Manchester United in fourth and just a point off the Saints in fifth, their 10th game in a row without suffering defeat.
West Ham fell victim to late drama at White Hart Lane after harry Kane struck home a penalty rebound six minutes into extra time, saving a 2-2 draw for the north London hosts.
Goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Diafra Sakho saw the Hammers into a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes to play, but John Cross of the Mirror felt no sympathy for Sam Allardyce's side, nominating Kane his man of the match:
Danny Rose contributed the goal that initially pulled Spurs back into the tie, with West Ham conceding twice in the final 15 minutes to see two very attainable points evade their grasp.
Sunday's other 2-2 draw came at Goodison Park, where it was also a last-gasp equaliser that saw Everton save face against Leicester City. Toffees manager Roberto Martinez admitted his side weren't clinical enough, per the club's official Twitter account:
The two teams went in scoreless at the break, but after Steven Naismith got the ball rolling for Everton on 57 minutes, Leicester struck twice in the space of eight minutes to turn the tie around.
Those finishes from David Nugent and Esteban Cambiasso were cancelled out by an 88th-minute own-goal, however, courtesy of Matthew Upson, to save Everton's blushes:
Saturday Recap
Manchester City sent out a war cry on Saturday evening, and after watching Chelsea drop to a disappointing draw at Burnley's hands, the Citizens proceeded to humiliate Newcastle United 5-0.
As FourFourTwo Stats Zone pointed out, David Silva was the string-puller supreme in a victory that showed why the defending Premier League champions are still a force to be reckoned with:
Despite the recent signing of Wilfried Bony, Edin Dzeko also showed his value with a goal and two assists for City, a perfectly timed result given Chelsea's struggles earlier in the day.
Branislav Ivanovic gave the west Londoners an early lead at Stamford Bridge, but tensions grew as Burnley refused to concede a second and even looked dangerous themselves at times.

The fixture was thrown into controversy, however, when Nemanja Matic was sent off midway through the second half for a shove on Ashley Barnes, who had just committed a dangerous-looking tackle on the Serbian international.
Ben Mee headed in a late equaliser for the Clarets to anger Jose Mourinho further, but the Chelsea boss refused to comment on the red card in his post-match comments, per Sky Sports Audio:
Just as the Burnley draw was something of a shock, so too was Swansea's triumph against a lacklustre Manchester United team, who fell 2-1 in south Wales thanks to goal from Ki Sung-yueng and Bafetimbi Gomis.
Speaking to MUTV, per the official Manchester United website, manager Louis van Gaal accepted the result but also had his share of positives to take, saying:
"I think it was our best second-half [performance], we created a lot of chances and dominated the game but we didn’t score. That's football, you have to score out of the chances you create. We had a lot of chances, especially in the second half, but they scored and then you know that it shall be difficult.
I shall say to the players that it is very disappointing but, in the process of the development of our play, then it was a very good match. To play like this, so dominating, creating so many chances, you can hardly improve apart from scoring goals, but that is also a bit of luck.
"
The loss was especially disappointing after Ander Herrera opened the scoring for Van Gaal's men, but a lack of conviction in front of goal saw the Red Devils struggle to add another.
Arsenal found themselves on the winning side of a 2-1 result after travelling to Selhurst Park on Saturday, where Danny Welbeck played an important role in their victory over Crystal Palace.

The England striker earned a penalty for Santi Cazorla to convert early on before teeing up Olivier Giroud for the Gunners' second, with Glenn Murray only able to add a 94th-minute consolation for the Eagles.
Hull City and Stoke City each claimed 2-1 victories of their own, beating QPR and Aston Villa, respectively. Hoops midfielder Joey Barton was sent off against the Tigers, but as Bleacher Report UK showed, he attempted to make amends via his Twitter account:
Charlie Austin's goal wouldn't be enough to stop a late Dame N'Doye goal from winning the tie for Steve Bruce's men while Mame Biram Diouf and Victor Moses were the leading figures for the Potters at Villa Park.
Saturday's most drab affair came at the Stadium of Light, where hosts Sunderland claimed a 0-0 stalemate not for the first time this season, holding off the challenge of West Brom to take a point.
