Marcus Mariota Will Throw at NFL Combine: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
Perhaps sensing he's starting to slip behind Florida State's Jameis Winston in the race to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota has informed NFL teams he will throw at this week's scouting combine.
ESPN.com reported that Mariota "has informed teams he will throw Saturday at the National Scouting Combine when his position group takes the field at Lucas Oil Stadium, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen."

Winston will also reportedly throw at the combine, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Widely viewed as the best player in college football and favorite to go No. 1 in April 30's draft throughout the 2014 season, Mariota has seen his stock slip in recent weeks.
ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper had him going sixth to the New York Jets in their latest mock drafts. Each of CBS Sports' three mock drafters (Rob Rang, Dane Brugler, Pat Kirwan) also had Winston going ahead of Mariota, continuing a wave of consensus that's slowly washing over the process.
"From a physical trait perspective, he has everything you want," NFL Network's Mike Mayock said, per Mike Huguenin of NFL.com. "He's big, he's athletic, he's got great feet and he's got a live arm. So on the surface, the individual components all work. The problem is he's a projection coming to the next level because of the pocket awareness, the progressions and the reads."
Mariota will look to start assuaging any concerns this week in Indianapolis.
The former Ducks star had been unsure whether he would be healthy enough to throw at the combine due to an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder. He did not have a formal decision in place as recently as Monday.
"Really, I'm looking forward to throwing if I'm able to do that," Mariota told reporters. "It's going to be a decision that my agent and the team that I have around me will decide when I get closer."
A three-year starter at Oregon, Mariota earned the school's first Heisman Trophy in 2014 with one of the best individual seasons in NCAA history. He threw for 4,454 yards and 42 touchdowns against four interceptions, adding 770 yards and 15 scores on the ground. He is the first player in Division I history to have 50 more total touchdowns than turnovers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers own the No. 1 pick in April's draft.
