Northern Story
The opening ceremony is set to reflect the culture of the hosts in northern British Columbia and get the 25th edition of the Canada Games going in style.
With national performers set to be on show as well as some local acts, much of the proceedings has been kept under wraps but 180 participants are set to be involved.
The two-hour show will feature representatives from the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, the Games' hosts, as well as musical performers Black Spruce Bog, Bright City Heights and Dear Rouge:
Ballet dancer Tristan Ghostkeeper will also be performing at the opening ceremony which will see the arrival of all the competing athletes marked in Prince George.
All of the young athletes set to be competing for their province or territory are at the top of their respective amateur field and are Canada's future Olympic stars.
As 2015 Canada Winter Games CEO Stuart Ballantyne suggests, the opening ceremony will be a chance for Prince George to welcome all the competitors, per The Prince George Citizen:
"Athletes from over 800 communities across Canada will journey to our region in 25 days for the 25th edition of the Canada Games, and we are so proud to kick off the 2015 Games with this professional production. The opening ceremony, presented by the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, will allow us to celebrate the athletes and showcase our region's northern story to the nation.
"
The Games Flag will be a centrepiece of the opening ceremony, and it is set to be carried by several Canada Games alumni who have gone on to achieve international recognition.
Olympic medallists Susan Auch, Erik Bedard, Robert Hedges, Cathy Priestner, Kelsey Serwa and rowing world champion Joy Ward-Fera will be the flag-bearers on Friday, per 250news.com, representatives of the potential paths for the current Canada Games competitors.
It is set to be a fine occasion at the CN Centre on Friday in a ceremony representative of the northern spirit of the hosts.
The proceedings mark the start of the 2015 Canada Games, with the events set to begin on Saturday running through to March 1's finale.
