Super Bowl National Anthem 2015: Idina Menzel Betting Advice and Odds Prediction
Idina Menzel will set the tone for Super Bowl XLIX Sunday when she performs the United States national anthem, but she'll also strangely have an impact on the bank accounts of some viewers as well.
Due to the magic of prop betting, wagers can be placed on Menzel's performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner," including how long it will take her to complete it and how accurate her version of the patriotic song will be.
While some might argue that betting on the anthem is a bit too much, there is no question that it enhances the intrigue and enjoyment of Super Bowl Sunday for many.

Idina Menzel Prop Bets
National Anthem Length
| Over 2 minutes, 1 second | 77-100 |
| Under 2 minutes, 1 second | 91-100 |
Since every singer has a different style and interpretation, the national anthem is always different in terms of how it sounds and how long it takes. Because of that variance, it certainly makes sense to have a prop bet available for the length of the song.
As evidenced by this chart, courtesy of Odds Shark, the length of the national anthem at the Super Bowl has been all over the place over the past decade:
| Super Bowl 40 | Aaron Neville and Aretha Franklin | 2:08 |
| Super Bowl 41 | Billy Joel | 1:30 |
| Super Bowl 42 | Jordin Sparks | 1:54 |
| Super Bowl 43 | Jennifer Hudson | 2:10 |
| Super Bowl 44 | Carrie Underwood | 1:47 |
| Super Bowl 45 | Christina Aguilera | 1:54 |
| Super Bowl 46 | Kelly Clarkson | 1:34 |
| Super Bowl 47 | Alicia Keys | 2:35 |
| Super Bowl 48 | Renee Fleming | 1:54 |
While it has most often taken less than this year's over/under of two minutes and one second, that won't have any impact on Menzel's performance.
This won't be Menzel's first time singing the national anthem on a big stage, as the 43-year-old star known for her hit song "Let It Go" performed at the 2014 MLB All-Star Game as well.
Although she finished that in less than two minutes and one second, David Barron of the Houston Chronicle believes she'll go over at the Super Bowl:
That certainly makes sense, as she may place more emphasis on making the performance epic and stringing out her notes. Even Menzel herself joked that she might alter her singing based on the prop bet, according to Andrea Dresdale of ABCNews.com:
"Oh, I love it. If they're talking about me at the Super Bowl, I like it! I can't help them though because I haven't timed it yet! But I've been promising some people, if they let me know, I can maybe, like, glance up at the clock and then hold the vibrato a little longer and try to work it out!
"
Menzel's comments were obviously made with her tongue planted firmly in her cheek, but based on her powerful singing style, a national anthem over two minutes and one second in length seems like the best bet for Sunday.
National Anthem Accuracy
| Yes | 4-1 |
| No | 17-100 |
The biggest fear of every singer is to mess up the national anthem, but a mistake gets amplified infinitely when it occurs on the Super Bowl stage. That means there will be a lot of pressure on Menzel to be perfect.
If she isn't, though, then those who bet on her to omit or forget at least one word could score a big payday at 4-1. The odds are seemingly against Menzel flubbing the anthem, but it isn't unheard of for even experienced singers to let nerves get the best of them.
Even Menzel herself has admitted that she is a bit nervous ahead of her performance, according to Alex Stone of ABC News:
Nervousness is natural before such a huge moment, and the fact that Menzel is a true professional should most definitely work in her favor. One can only assume that Menzel has been gearing up for this moment for a long time, and she'll thrive by laying down a flawless performance.
