Squares Betting Info
Super Bowl squares is an extremely fun game to play with your party guests or coworkers. It's a great source of entertainment throughout the big game, as every score will affect your chances of collecting the winnings. In case you're not familiar with the game, here's a quick overview.
Picture a grid with 10 columns and 10 rows. The columns are numbered from zero through nine and represent the NFC team. The rows are also numbered from zero through nine, but they represent the AFC team. Each person is assigned one square. That square will have corresponding numbers for both the AFC and NFC teams. You want those numbers to match the last digit for each team's final score.
Here's a simple example. Let's say your square's AFC number is seven and NFC number is three. If the Patriots end up defeating the Seahawks by a score of 27-23, you're the lucky winner. If you still need a little help understanding, and you're more of a visual person, take a look at the game board below.
While you can't pick which square you ultimately wind up in, you can still take a look at how likely you are to win it all. Luckily for us, a Harvard student organization known as the Harvard College Sports Analysis Collective tweeted the likelihood of your numbers hitting:
So, what did we learn from that graphic? Well, if you happen to land on a two, five or nine, consider your money a donation. Those numbers are historically awful for this game and aren't likely to do you any favors. On the other hand, having a zero, four or seven gives you a likely chance to reap your rewards.
Game Prediction
Now, here's the burning question: What combination of a square, the point spread and over/under will give you the Super Bowl betting trifecta?
Both the Patriots and Seahawks have very strong defenses, so we should expect scoring opportunities to be limited. However, each offense has an element that can expose the opposing defense's weakness—the Seahawks have allowed 11 touchdowns to tight ends this season, and the Patriots boast the league's best, while the Patriots struggle against mobile quarterbacks, and Russell Wilson rushed for 849 yards this year.
That said, if each team scores three touchdowns apiece—not a far-fetched scenario—and a few stalled drives result in field goals, we've already hit the over.
As for the spread, expect this game to remain close for a full 60 minutes. Although, while Tom Brady has been known for late-game heroics, it's difficult to bet against a Seahawks defense that continues to play well against some of the league's best quarterbacks.
The Seahawks will emerge victorious 27-24. So if you picked the over, Seattle against the spread and your square has a seven for the NFC and a four for the AFC, get ready to collect your winnings.
