Tyler ConwayJan 29, 2015

Rasheed Sulaimon's disappointing career for the Duke Blue Devils is over after head coach Mike Krzyzewski dismissed the junior guard for a violation of team rules on Jan. 29. Duke Not Investigating Sulaimon for Sexual Assault

Thursday, March 5

Emily Kaplan of SI.com reported that Duke is not investigating Sulaimon for sexual assault. Kaplan provided additional details:

"

Sulaimon is not currently under investigation by the school. This was confirmed by Bob Ekstrand, who is serving as Sulaimon’s advisor. While Ekstrand is a local Durham attorney, he is reluctant to identify himself as Sulaimon’s “lawyer,” since the former player is not subject to any current legal proceedings.

Multiple sources say there was not one specific incident that served as the impetus for Sulaimon's dismissal. Rather it was an accumulation of events that led to that action, including a missed 11 p.m. curfew that occurred shortly before he was kicked off the team.

"

On March 3, Derek Rowles of ABC 11 provided a statement from Duke following Sulaimon's dismissal from the school:

Members of Duke's Athletic Department Reportedly Aware of Sulaimon Allegations in March 2014

Monday, March 2

"Rasheed Sulaimon's dismissal from the Duke basketball program is clouded by allegations of sexual assault, which surfaced nearly a year before he was released from the team in January. Multiple sources close to the situation have confirmed that members of the athletic department were made aware of the allegations as early as March 2014," reported Emma Baccellieri and Nick Martin of DukeChronicle.com.

Krzyzewski declined comment on the situation five separate times during a teleconference, including twice to the same question, per Chris Carlson of The Post-Standard.

Krzyzewski Comments on Sulaimon's Dismissal

Thursday, Jan. 29

“Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program,” Krzyzewski said, per Adam Rowe of 247Sports. “It is a privilege to represent Duke University, and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.”

Sulaimon has not been dismissed from the university outright. Rowe reported he remains "in good academic standing" and is expected to remain a student through the end of the spring semester. It's possible Sulaimon will transfer to another school for the fall semester, where he will then play out his final year of eligibility.

Laura Keeley of The Charlotte Observer reported it is the first move of this kind Krzyzewski has made during his time at Duke:

CSN Chicago's Scott Phillips noted the impact of the move:

Sulaimon fell out of favor in 2014-15 after being a fixture in Krzyzewski's rotation for his first two seasons at Duke. He averaged a career-low 7.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on 41.3 percent shooting this year. Krzyzewski played Sulaimon only 12 minutes in Wednesday night's loss to Notre Dame, continuing a trend of diminishing playing time for the junior in high-profile contests.

Sulaimon was averaging 19.3 minutes per game overall, a six-minute decrease from last season and nearly 10 fewer than he averaged in his freshman campaign.
