International Bowl 2015: U-18 Rosters, Start Time, TV Schedule and More

Adam WellsJan 29, 2015

The friendly international war between the United States and Canada gets taken to another level on January 30 with the 2015 International Bowl. The annual showcase game highlights some of the best and brightest high school prospects in the two countries who will be part of the 2016 recruiting class.

It's only fitting that such a monumental showdown between the two countries would take place in one of America's biggest football stadiums, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Over 100 players will converge on the house that Jerry Jones built to show off their skills and make an impression on college scouts.

One of the great parts of these showcase games is they provide an opportunity to show what good talent can do against equally good talent. As fun as high school football can be, there tends to be a gap when teams are only pitted up against other local schools.

Key Recruits Playing

Dwayne Haskins, QB, The Bullis School (Potomac, Maryland)

One of the top pro-style quarterbacks in the 2016 recruiting class, Dwayne Haskins is a name that fans will become very familiar with over the next 12 months. He's listed as a 4-star recruit with offers from schools like Ohio State, Notre Dame and Penn State.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball projections list Ohio State as the slight favorite to land Haskins, which is good because Urban Meyer really has problems developing quarterbacks.

However, Haskins recently took a visit to Rutgers and sounded high on the program based on these comments to Todderick Hunt of NJ.com:

"

Rutgers is one of the schools on my mind, right now. It was a great visit. I enjoyed every second of it. They have great people there. I can't wait to come back. ...

I don't have a list, right now. But I told coach Flood that he's one of my favorite coaches, Rutgers is a great program and I like them a lot. So if I were to have one, they would definitely be on it.

"

It's easy to see why so many top programs are after Haskins when you look at the tape. He's just 190 pounds right now but has a rocket arm with better accuracy than a player his age should have. The arm strength gets you into the building, yet it's the touch and poise in the pocket that really stand out.

Haskins will have to get bigger to stick as a college quarterback, which could lead to him redshirting as a freshman in 2016, but all the tools are there for this young man to become a star as soon as he steps on a college campus.

Robert Washington, RB, SouthLake Christian Academy (Huntersville, North Carolina)

In a solid running back field, Robert Washington is a standout for his unique ability to barrel over defenders already. He's not a burner who will make plays on the outside, as so many young backs are wont to do.

What makes Washington so different is he's already built like a college running back at 5'10" and 215 pounds. That could concern some teams wondering how big he might get in the next two or three years, but right now, all the signs suggest the North Carolina native could be a difference-maker.

Per the ESPN Recruiting Nation scouting report, Washington isn't without speed and displays good footwork to make defenders miss:

"

Washington has a solid frame and good running strength between the tackles. Flashes some ability to get outside and up field. Has solid balance and change-of-direction when running through traffic and can make a move at the second level to create separation. Can pick and slide in-line and explode through creases.

"

Like Haskins, 247Sports has Ohio State as the leader in the clubhouse to land Washington's services. It's not a huge majority, as North Carolina and Tennessee are in the picture.

There may not be a better place to develop as a running back than Ohio State. Carlos Hyde turned into a second-round draft pick in 2014 while Ezekiel Elliott ran for 1,878 yards and 18 touchdowns in leading the Buckeyes to a title this year.

Areas where Washington needs to improve is in pass protection and catching the ball out of the backfield. Those may not be big factors in this particular game, but keep an eye out to see if he's asked to try it and see the response.

Jared Mayden, CB, Sachse (Sachse, Texas)

We didn't forget about the defense, especially with a star as talented as Jared Mayden. The Texas prep star is the No. 9 cornerback in the 2016 class and has offers on the table from all the usual suspects (Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma, etc.).

Mayden is going to add some drama to this week, as he told Gabe Brooks of Scout.com that his list of colleges will be dwindled down to three. He also discussed the programs that are currently pursuing him the hardest:

"Really aggressive is Ohio State, Oregon, and TCU," Mayden said. "Ohio State, I talk to [safeties] coach [Chris] Ash and [cornerbacks] coach [Kerry] Coombs. Oregon, I talk to [secondary] coach [John] Neal and [defensive coordinator] coach [Don] Pellum."

Mayden also said that he will "probably" be going to TCU in February and would like to take a visit to UCLA before making any final decisions.

It's not a surprise to see why teams love Mayden, as he's listed at 6'0" and 190 pounds. Few cornerbacks in the 2016 recruiting class can match his combination of instincts and strength, allowing him to play on an island without looking lost.

There's nothing better than finding a cornerback who isn't afraid to get in a wide receiver's face and is capable of matching his power off the line of scrimmage. He's an aggressive player who can get beat by trying to create a turnover, but it's a small price to pay for everything else he brings to the table.
