The race to sign midfield prodigy Paul Pogba is hotting up with the news Manchester United are the primary club interested in capturing the French international.

According to L'Equipe, the Red Devils are the team who want Pogba the most at present. However, Paris Saint-Germain could soon move for the midfielder, as highlighted by Bleacher Report's French football expert Jonathan Johnson:

Pogba's impending availability promises to be the big story of the next transfer window with United certain to make a splash in the marketplace.

The player has once again been in splendid form for Juventus in Serie A and has become the focal point of the team.

Pogba has displayed his varying talents both in the centre of the park and in front of goal, scoring six times in 17 Serie A appearances and providing one assist, per WhoScored.com.

The Frenchman recently admitted he still has feelings for his former employers after leaving Old Trafford for Turin in 2012.

Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, per Sky Sports, the player admitted it was his lack of patience that aided his move to Italy and that he still "loves" United:

"

I'm impatient. It was the feeling I had. The coach (Sir Alex Ferguson) had faith in me but didn't put me on. He said that I was too young. He said "your time will come" but it never did. It didn't come. But it does not mean I will speak ill of Manchester United. I love the club.

"

Pogba's admission of love does not mean he will certainly return to Manchester, and even if he does, it could be with the blue half of the city.

After all, money and finance are likely to drive any future deal.

Italian legend Andrea Pirlo thinks Pogba will resist the chance to reunite with the Red Devils after they spurned the chance to originally break him into their first team, per Jack Gaughan of the Mail Online:

"

For whatever reasons they chose not to give him a chance and that is a mistake they will have to live with now. I can’t see that he (Pogba) will ever return to Manchester United.

When he first joined us in training at Juventus we knew there was something about him and in just two years he has become one of the best players in the world.

Of course he is going to have options—he knows that. You can’t play at the level he is and not attract attention—but he also knows that at Juventus he is already at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

"

Despite Pirlo's opinion, Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, believes his future lies outside of Serie A.

Raiola professed this belief recently to Sport Mediaset, per the Republik of Mancunia for the Metro:

"

He will not stay in Italy much longer. It all depends on Juventus, to be honest. We have just signed a new deal and we are happy but, if the right moment comes along to leave, we will not let it pass.

"

These are ominous words for Juve fans. It appears to be only a matter of time before Pogba moves to a different country.

PSG are a viable option for the player, given their huge sums of finance and the fact they are the biggest club in Pogba's homeland.

However, the player has unfinished business in Manchester. He spent his formative teenage years at the club, and if United can come up with the correct package, he might be tempted to revisit old ground.

The Premier League is a huge attraction for the best players now, and with Real Madrid and Barcelona packed with stars, the options are often more tempting in England.

It could appeal to Pogba to go back to United and save them. The club rejected the chance to play him when they could have blooded him, and he may well prove a point by being the team's saviour in difficult times.

United are in desperate need for a midfield superstar and there is absolutely no reason why that should not be Paul Pogba.
