Super Bowl Start Time 2015: Patriots vs. Seahawks Kickoff, National Anthem Info
Folks, the biggest event in sports is only four days away.
Super Bowl XLIX is in Glendale, Arizona, for the first time since the New York Giants stunned the New England Patriots in February 2008. The Patriots are back seven years later, though they'll be met by the Seattle Seahawks, who seek to become the first back-to-back champs since the Patriots were a decade ago.
Kicking off the festivities is Broadway star Idina Menzel, who will sing the national anthem. The anthem has little to do with the game itself, but expectations are high for the one who has the honor of performing prior to kickoff. Will Menzel steal the show like Whitney Houston did in 1991? Or will she bomb like Christina Aguilera in 2011?

Will Idina Menzel Mess Up?

Menzel is an incredible performer. She has a booming voice that can belt the high notes, but she has a smooth, more delicate side as well. That makes her an obvious choice to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
But she has a sketchy history when it comes to big-time performances. After John Travolta butchered her name at last year's Oscars (Adele Dazeem? Really?), Menzel took the stage to perform "Let It Go," the song from Disney's Frozen that has been stuck in your head since Christmas 2013.
Performing at the Oscars is both an honor and a privilege, and it's reasonable to expect an artist to be a bit nervous about singing in front of some of the most important people in the entertainment industry. The nerves got to her, though.
Rolling Stone was turned off by the rendition of the hit song: "The Wicked star turned the whole song into one long yell, working both the sustained high notes and the tamer parts of the verses with the exact same let's-put-on-show gusto. This is what trying way too hard looks like."
That wouldn't be the last time she botched the song on a national stage.
Months later, in Times Square on New Year's Eve 2014, Menzel was again called upon to wow the audience at home and in New York City with "Let It Go." It was freezing cold, and millions of people were watching.
Naturally, her performance was worse. It was highlighted by this high note, which left people clutching their ears:
But it'd be wrong to dismiss Menzel before she takes the mic on Sunday. Have you heard "Defying Gravity?" She can sing. She can really, really sing. Plus, she respects the history of "The Star-Spangled Banner":
So while this may not be a Houston-like performance, she should fall more toward that end of the spectrum than the Aguilera side.
Prop Bets

This doesn't come as a shock to those familiar with the Super Bowl and the betting culture in football. Las Vegas has released a couple of prop bets concerning Menzel and the national anthem. Check them out:
| How long will it take Idina Menzel to sing the national anthem? | Over/Under: 2 minutes, 1 second |
| Will Idina Menzel forget or omit at least one word of the national anthem? | Yes +400 (4-1); No -600 (1-6) |
So, in regard to the first one, bet the over. Definitely bet the over. Menzel is a Broadway star. Even if you've never seen a live show, you should know that the style of singing on Broadway is often drawn out. It's long and deliberate. Each word is given the same amount of importance and respect.
Two minutes, one second isn't really a long time. Feel confident in betting the over if you're inclined to get in on the Vegas action prior to kickoff Sunday.
In regard to the second prop bet, this is one you need to trust your gut on. Despite all of Menzel's flaws when it comes to singing on the big stage, she doesn't appear to have an extensive history of forgetting words.
She did forget the words to Wicked's "Be Good" some time ago, but there's no evidence of anything similar happening since.
You should always go with your gut on prop bets. That said, the over/under on the national anthem seems to be a lock. The other one? Not so much.
