Super Bowl 2015 Kickoff Time: When and Where to Watch Patriots vs. Seahawks

Steven CookJan 26, 2015

Super Bowl XLIX can't come soon enough, with every hour up until kickoff building the anticipation more and more for the season's final game.

The top seed from each conference made it to the big stage for the second straight year, as the Seattle Seahawks make a repeat trip and the New England Patriots make a sixth Super Bowl appearance.

So much of the talk in the off week unfortunately didn't delve into the game itself. But now it's game week, which means the teams will be locked in and ready for action.

Super Bowl Preview

Those who let the bizarre and impending investigation of Deflategate decide their mindset on Super Bowl XLIX might end up missing out on one of the best championship games in NFL history.

At least, that's what Sunday's game promises to be both on paper and in the scope of two teams hoping to continue writing their legacies.

On one end, there's the stingy and suffocating Seahawks defense that has their squad one step away from the first title repeat since New England did so a decade ago. Whether they dominate the game and pull away or have to make a magical comeback as shown in the NFC Championship Game, they find ways to get it done.

The Pats can echo that ability, as Brady led them to an improbable divisional-round victory over Baltimore before staying hot to throttle the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC title game. And if any team is capable of succeeding against Seattle's defense, it's the balanced offense of the Patriots.

While the Patriots look to have the better offense and Seattle maintains the defensive edge, both teams are neck and neck in forcing turnovers, as noted by ESPN Stats and Info:

How Brady and Co. match up against the "Legion of Boom" figures to be the must-watch showdown, but what will put either team over the top is execution on the other half of the field.

And that should be a serious concern for Seattle, which had to overcome four interceptions from Russell Wilson against the Green Bay Packers. The Seahawks do boast the league's most formidable rushing attack, but success between the tackles could be tough even for the Seahawks against a ninth-ranked Patriots run defense.

If Wilson can't threaten Patriots cornerbacks Brandon Browner—a former Seahawk—and Darrelle Revis, they won't be able to lean on the run quite as effectively. Few around the league would compare New England's secondary to the vaunted Seahawks, but Browner believes the winner should take claim to the title of NFL's best secondary.

"Whoever win that game," Browner told The News Tribune's Don Ruiz. "Right or wrong? What you think? Whoever win that game, we have bragging rights."

Browner will have more bragging rights than anyone if his Patriots top a Seahawks team that sought to replace him at corner. But when it comes down to it, it's his former teammates who still maintain the bragging rights after last year's shellacking of Denver on this same stage.

Throughout the course of 60 minutes on Sunday, much, much more than bragging rights will be on the line.
