Texas A&M's 2015 National Signing Day Wish List

Michael TaglientiJan 25, 2015

The Texas A&M Aggies will attempt to fill some of the gaps on the team with their 2015 recruiting class. The coaches need to finish strong in order to put the final touches on a top-10 recruiting class that will address some of the team's immediate needs on the field.

The Aggies currently have the No. 8 class in the country, according to 247Sports. If they sign the remaining players on their wish list, then they will have a top-five class on Feb. 4.

A&M's needs in this class are no secret. The team needs immediate help on defense and, as always, needs to add depth at the skill positions on offense. The most glaring need is quarterback, where the Aggies only have one scholarship player on the roster.

This is a look at Texas A&M's signing day wish list.

QB Kyler Murray

1 of 5

The No. 1 priority is to sign Kyler Murray. The 5'11, 180-pound athlete from Allen High School in Texas has been committed to the Aggies since May.

He caused quite a stir last week when he took an unofficial visit to Texas. This is one player the Aggies cannot afford to lose in the 2015 class.

Murray is a 5-star prospect who is ranked as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to 247Sports. He has the potential to be a transcendent type of player.

For the Aggies, it is simply an issue of numbers. With Kenny Hill transferring from A&M, there is only one scholarship quarterback on campus: starter Kyle Allen.

Murray would walk in from Day 1 and be the backup quarterback. Without him, the Aggies would enter the 2015 season one play away from starting a walk-on at quarterback.

Murray is the name A&M coaches have to see come across the fax machine on signing day.

NG Daylon Mack

2 of 5

After Murray, the Aggies' biggest priority is singing Gladewater, Texas, defensive tackle Daylon Mack. He was previously committed to A&M but reopened his recruitment on Dec. 19.

Mack would see immediate playing time at nose guard in 2015. He has the size and strength to conceivably be the starter by the end of the season.

In order to win games in the SEC, you have to be able to stop the run. Mack can help the Aggies hold up at the point of attack. The addition of John Chavis as defensive coordinator should help A&M land Mack.

Mack is the No. 18 overall recruit in the country, according to 247Sports. He and Chavis could help revitalize the Aggies defense and help the program compete for championships.

CB Kris Boyd

3 of 5

Kris Boyd is a 4-star prospect from Gilmer, Texas, who is one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. He is ranked as the No. 9 cornerback in the country, according to 247Sports.

The Aggies need immediate help at cornerback, and Boyd is the type of athlete who can step in and help them.

Chavis is not afraid to start true freshmen in the secondary. In 2014, he started true freshman Jamal Adams at safety at LSU. Adams had 66 tackles and five tackles for loss on the year. Boyd might be able to have a similar impact on the Aggies defense in 2015.

With the graduation of Deshazor Everett, there is a starting position available at cornerback. Boyd would be able to compete for that position as a true freshman.

The Aggies need to add depth and talent at the cornerback position. Boyd could be a big part of the transition of the Aggies defense under Chavis.

CB Holton Hill

4 of 5

Holton Hill is a 6'2", 180-pound cornerback from Houston, Texas. He is ranked as a 4-star prospect and the No. 8 overall cornerback in the nation by 247Sports.

He took an official visit to A&M on Jan. 23. He is the type of long defensive back that Chavis craves on his defense.

Hill is also considering Texas, Alabama and LSU, and he is a long shot to sign with A&M at this point. If the Aggies are able to sign Boyd and Hill, they will have very good building blocks for Chavis to build the kind of secondary he desires.

ATH Kirk Merritt

5 of 5

Kirk Merritt is a 5'11", 206-pound all-purpose back from Destrehan, Louisiana. He could play running back or wide receiver at the college level.

He is a 4-star prospect and the No. 7 overall recruit in Louisiana, according to 247Sports.

Merritt is a dynamic football player with the ball in his hands. He has great speed and has been timed at 10.6 in the 100 in track.

Merritt would remind Aggies fans of former running back Trey Williams. He would likely be used in the same role as Williams—a speed back who sometimes lined up in the slot.

Right now A&M is competing with Oregon and LSU for Merritt's signature. It would be a mild upset if the Aggies landed him on signing day. He is physically ready to compete in the SEC and would add depth at running back for the Aggies in 2015.
