Texas A&M Football: Who Will Replace Aggies' Top 2015 NFL Draft Prospects

Michael TaglientiJan 22, 2015

The Texas A&M Aggies have a number of seniors and one junior who should be selected in the 2015 NFL draft. The team is going to have a hard time replacing some of the talent that is leaving to play on Sundays.

The range of draft prospects for the Aggies spans from likely first-round selection left tackle Cedric Ogbuehi to borderline seventh-rounders like kicker Josh Lambo. Draft-eligible Aggies will need to improve their positions on the draft boards through the scouting combine and all-star games.

Players who should expect to hear their names called at the draft include Ogbuehi, Jarvis Harrison, Trey Williams, Lambo and Deshazor Everett. How well the Aggies can replace these players will go a long way toward determining what kind of season they have in 2015.

Here's a look at who will replace the Aggies' top 2015 draft prospects next season.

LT Cedric Ogbuehi

1 of 5

Texas A&M senior left tackle Cedric Ogbuehi was projected to be a first-round draft pick, but his draft status is in jeopardy after he tore his ACL in the Liberty Bowl victory against West Virginia.

Ogbuehi had an insurance policy taken out on his behalf, so he will be compensated if he drops out of the first round. The Aggies coaches need to decide who will replace Ogbuehi at left tackle in 2015.

The candidates include redshirt juniors Avery Gennesy, Jermaine Eluemunor, Germain Ifedi and redshirt freshman Koda Martin. Gennesy and Eluemunor both redshirted in 2014 after signing with the Aggies out of junior college.

Ifedi spent the 2014 season as the starting right tackle. Martin redshirted after signing with the Aggies in 2014 out of high school.

While no one knows for certain how new offensive line coach Dave Christensen will arrange his line, Aggies fans should expect Gennesy to win the battle to become the starter at left tackle. Ifedi will likely stay at right tackle, with Eluemunor starting at right guard.

Expect Martin to back up Gennesy at left tackle and be the first offensive tackle in the game if Gennesy or Ifedi are hurt.

LG Jarvis Harrison

2 of 5

Offensive guard Jarvis Harrison was a four-year starter for the Aggies. He is projected to be anywhere from a second-day pick to being selected in the seventh round.

Harrison is a player who needs to have a good showing at the NFL combine to ease concerns about his weight and his work ethic.

He will likely be replaced at left guard by redshirt junior Jermaine Eluemunor. The competition at the position will come from Koda Martin and Zach Ledwik.

Elumuenor will be spending his second year in the Aggies system and his fourth year in college football. He is more physically prepared for the rigors of the SEC than the two redshirt freshmen.

RB Trey Williams

3 of 5

Texas A&M junior running back declared early for the draft. He will need to impress scouts at the NFL combine in order to hear his name called during the draft.

Williams was severely underutilized during his time in college. He spent three years at A&M and never had 100 carries in a season. He leaves the Aggies after rushing for 560 yards and seven touchdowns on a career-high 81 carries as a junior.

Luckily for the Aggies, they have plenty of depth at the position. The team deployed a running back rotation in 2014, with three backs sharing the carries. In 2015, look for rising senior Tra Carson to get the majority of the carries.

Carson rushed for a team-high 581 yards in 2014. The Aggies do not have a running back who fits into Williams' role of a speed-back currently on the roster. Incoming freshman Jay Bradford could fill that role if he is physically ready to play in 2015.

K Josh Lambo

4 of 5

Texas A&M place-kicker Josh Lambo has already been drafted in the first round in one sport. He was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2008 MLS Draft by FC Dallas.

Lambo has been invited to the 2015 NFL combine and will have a chance to show scouts he deserves to be drafted. If he is not, he will likely sign with a team as an undrafted free agent—as the majority of kickers do.

Senior place-kicker Taylor Bertolet and incoming freshman Daniel Lacamera will both compete for the place-kicking job in August. Aggies fans should expect Bertolet to reclaim the job he formerly held. He has one of the stronger legs in the country.

If Bertolet can be more consistent on extra points, then he should be a fine place-kicker for the Aggies in 2015.

CB Deshazor Everett

5 of 5

Texas A&M senior cornerback Deshazor Everett does not currently have an invitation to the NFL scouting combine. Right now he is viewed as a borderline draftable player.

If Everett is not able to work his way into a combine invitation, then he will need to have a good pro day in front of scouts. He is a guy who can play in the NFL if he is in the right scheme.

Aggies fans should expect rising sophomore cornerback Victor Davis to replace Everett. Davis is a physical player who should excel in John Chavis' system.

Do not be surprised if the secondary looks markedly improved in 2015 with Davis and De'Vante Harris playing cornerback.
