Predicting the Final Score
The championship between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks is a unique battle of contrasting styles. The high-powered offense of New England has led the team to the Super Bowl, and it was the tough-nosed defense of Seattle that helped the franchise earn a title berth.
On the Patriots' side, the game plan is all about the offense. After earning a first-round bye, New England began the postseason by hanging 35 points in a victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Led by Tom Brady, the offense racked up 422 total yards.
In the AFC Championship, the Patriots were expected to be in a fierce battle with the Indianapolis Colts, but that was far from the case. Not only did New England score 45 points, but the offensive unit also racked up 220 passing yards, 177 rushing yards and six total touchdowns.
When asked about the pressure of winning, former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest told Alex Speier of The Boston Globe about lofty expectations set by the franchise:
"I’m not being facetious when I say this – nobody cares about playoffs around here. The standard has been set here. If you’re not winning Super Bowls, it’s a disappointing year. We’ll say, ‘Hey, good job, you guys fought hard, you got there,’ and all that, but the goal here is to win it all and to be the best. Tom understands that. Belichick understands that. That’s the goal.
"
On the other side of the ball, Seattle has been so successful thanks to arguably the best defensive unit in the NFL. The Seahawks finished the regular season first against the pass (allowed 185.6 yards per game) and third against the run (allowed 81.5 yards per game), and they held Carolina to just 17 points in the divisional round.
In the NFC Championship against Green Bay, the Seattle defense struggled early in the game but stiffened up in the second half and helped lead the team to a stunning overtime victory. With momentum overflowing for the Seahawks, the battle on the field against New England will be incredible.
As well as the defending Super Bowl champions have played, the offensive unit for New England is just too good to let Seattle hold it down. Expect the Patriots to win yet another championship.
Predicted Final Score: New England 27, Seattle 24
