Tottenham vs. Sheffield United: Time, Live Stream, TV Info, League Cup Preview

Gianni VerschuerenJan 20, 2015

Tottenham Hotspur will host Sheffield United in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final on Wednesday at White Hart Lane, with kick-off scheduled at 7.45 p.m. GMT.

The Premier League side are the strong favourites after a series of promising performances in the league, but if there's anything United showed in their win over Southampton, it's that the League One side shouldn't be taken lightly.

Cup football is as unpredictable a tournament as you can find, and while the top teams will have an additional leg to make up for any mistakes they make in the semi-finals, Spurs will have to be on their toes when the Blades pay them a visit.

Preview

Tottenham enter the match coming off a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sunderland, with Christian Eriksen once again the hero with another late goal to save his team. As shared by KICK TV, the Denmark international is starting to make a habit out of these late-game heroics:

Spurs have been an opportunistic squad all season, and of late, the results have been falling their way. They've lost just one of their last 10 fixtures across all competitions, winning seven and drawing two.

Sheffield United haven't been as in-form, winning just two of their last five. One of those two victories was a 3-0 triumph over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, however, the second Premier League scalp the Blades took this season.

Coach Chris Morgan has been very vocal about his side's feelings toward the big boys of English football, never more evident than after the win over the Saints, as reported by Sky Sports:

"

We have won some good Cup ties in the past 12 months but I think that is probably up there at the top of the list.

We would have settled for a 1-0 I think, but we probably should have had a second goal tonight.

It was a remarkable effort by the players. The 14 lads we had out there gave absolutely everything.

The players love playing teams from higher leagues. I think they relish it, I don't think it daunts them, and we do look forward to these type of evenings.

"

Momentum often plays a big role in football, and Spurs clearly hold the edge in that category. Sheffield's loss against MK Dons was disappointing, pushing the Blades out of the League One top six. Meanwhile, Spurs are flying high, as Eriksen told the club's official website:

Spurs might elect to rest one or two key starters with an eye on the Premier League, as the race for the European tickets starts to heat up. But the Capital One Cup might be the team's best—and only—chance at winning silverware this season—overlooking United would be unwise.

The Blades are a tough, gritty team who showed a surprising amount of creativity in the win over QPR. Tottenham's defence has been hit-and-miss this season, and a miss on Wednesday could be costly.

That said, the fact Spurs have two legs to decide this tie surely means the Blades' fairy-tale story ends in the semi-finals.

Final Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Sheffield United
