Aston Villa vs. Liverpool: Brendan Rodgers and Paul Lambert Post-Match Reaction
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hailed his side's style after the Reds ran out 2-0 winners against Aston Villa on Saturday in the Premier League.
The Northern Irishman played with three at the back and Liverpool put in a largely fine performance with goals from Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert sealing the points at Villa Park and the Reds' unbeaten league run now stands at six matches.
Villa spurned several opportunities to draw level after the Reds' opener but Lambert's excellent strike in the 79th minute proved the knockout blow and Rodgers was clearly pleased post-match with a significant win, per the Liverpool Echo's Kristian Walsh:

Borini opened the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute, the unmarked Italian latching onto the end of a Jordan Henderson cross from the right to prod home.
Second-half Liverpool substitute Lambert then doubled the Reds' lead with 11 minutes remaining as he fired a low strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Rodgers hailed the impact of the England international, per the Premier League, and quite rightly after fine work from the former Southampton man:
While it finished in a comfortable victory for Liverpool—who moved up to seventh in the Premier League table with the three points—Villa had their chances.
Christian Benteke, Nathan Baker and Tom Cleverley all had opportunities in front of goal, the Belgian being denied on one occasion by a terrific Simon Mignolet save from a half volley, the goalkeeper's performance drawing high praise from Rodgers, per Walsh:
However, Villa could not make their chances count and have now failed to win each of their last seven Premier League games, the last five of which have been goalless for Paul Lambert's men.
Lambert made assurances that goals would be forthcoming eventually, and Villa did indeed create enough opportunities to take something from the match, per The Times' Tony Barrett:
With only 11 goals in 22 league games this season, though, Villa desperately need to turn things around soon to avoid slipping into the relegation zone—they are currently 14th.
As for Liverpool, they are moving steadily towards the top four and Rodgers seems to have found a system in which his core of players can flourish.
