Barcelona Transfer News: Neymar Rubbishes Lionel Messi Crisis Rumours

Rob BlanchetteJan 12, 2015

Neymar moved to dispel rumours alleging that the Barcelona camp is in turmoil after the Catalan team defeated La Liga champions Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Goals from the Brazilian, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi gave Barca a morale-boosting 3-1 win against Diego Simeone's outfit.

Barcelona's official website quoted the 22-year-old hero saying that the victory was for "everybody" at the club: "I am very happy with how we played. This win is for everybody. We need to focus, there aren't any problems off the field."

The player was succinct and direct with his wording and clearly wished to dismiss any talk that his team are currently in crisis.

Messi has been the centre of most of the controversy in recent times, per BBC Sport, but he has come out to hit out at the "lies" being reported about his future, pledging himself to Barca and Luis Enrique:

"

People make it out as if I run the club and that's not how it is. I don't ask anyone to make decisions. Everything that has been said is lies and I want people to know that. Everything that has been said is false.

Suarez also added his voice to the debate after his goalscoring performance against Atleti.

The Uruguayan—who has taken time to settle in since his move from Liverpool and ban for biting—spoke to the club's website about his relationship with the other members of the team's attacking contingent and how the latest victory means so much to the Barca camp:

"

A win like this against Atletico makes us stronger; it's good for our self-esteem. The most important things is that we won. We know that in these kinds of games we have to outrun the other team. We were great in the first half, and in the second they recovered a little, but in the end our hard work paid off.

The truth is that my relationship with Messi and Neymar is spectacular, we get along really well, both on and off the field, and the same with the rest of our team-mates.

Suarez has not been prolific since his arrival from the Premier League, only managing to find the net on two occasions in his 10 appearances in La Liga so far, per WhoScored.com.

However, he has provided six assists in this time frame, and Enrique will now be hoping to see the best from his mercurial striker.

Barca seem keen to show a united front, with Andres Iniesta describing Enrique as the team's "beacon of light," per the club's official website. The Spain legend is a hugely influential person at the club, and his public backing will certainly help Enrique.

However, the manager was pessimistic with his own post-match thoughts, per Moises Llorens of AS, hinting that he feels criticism will surely return if Barca give their detractors the opportunity to attack them: "Winning is the only way in overcoming [stories of problems at Barcelona], although I’m sure that when we slip-up the knives will be out again."

Owen Gibson of The Guardian also questioned this new found togetherness at Camp Nou, centering on Messi's comments and questioning the validity of the team's harmony:

The only way Barcelona can find a way out of the forest of rumours and back into much more favourable territory is by chasing down Real Madrid in the title race.

The win against Atletico has gone some way to achieving that, but Enrique is correct in his assessment—criticism will re-emerge with the team's next defeat.

There is just one point separating Barca and the Galacticos, and with Messi, Neymar and Suarez all contributing, it is not impossible to imagine the club winning La Liga in 2014-15.

Messi's influence at Barca will continue to be huge, but if the team can find the form of previous years, the gossip will be extinguished very quickly.
