Chelsea Transfer News: Steve Holland Denies Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenJan 9, 2015

Assistant Steve Holland dismissed rumours Chelsea may be interested in signing Barcelona's Lionel Messi or Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos on Friday, reminding everyone the Blues have no intention of making any moves in the January transfer window, via BBC Sport:

Holland addressed the media ahead of Chelsea's upcoming Premier League match against Newcastle United, and he was predictably bombarded with questions regarding the club's transfer plans.

The Blues have been linked with a number of La Liga stars in recent weeks, most notably Lionel Messi, whose future with the Blaugrana has never looked bleaker, according to Bleacher Report's Guillem Balague:

Holland told reporters the 27-year-old star won't be moving to Stamford Bridge, however, ruling out a transfer on the basis of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, per Sky Sports' Pete O'Rourke:

Asked about other potential targets, Holland pointed at the current Premier League standings and the excellent performances of the players currently at the club, via Chelsea's official Twitter feed:

The Blues lead the league and have lost just two matches all season, comfortably advancing in the UEFA Champions League and the domestic cups.

As of right now, Chelsea don't need to make any big-money signings thanks to a number of smart investments during the summer window. The likes of Ramos and Messi would cost an interested team a record-breaking fee in January, providing they're interested in moving in the first place.

According to Gianlucadimarzio.com's David Amoyal, the Blues will have some say in the future of Andrej Kramaric the moment he officially joins Leicester City—he's still waiting for a work permit—but other than that, fans shouldn't expect too much movement.

The 2014-15 campaign has been a superb one for Chelsea so far—there's simply no reason to risk disrupting all of that momentum by spending big at this particular time.
