On Friday, Toure took to Twitter to thank his fans:
The award was voted on by African national team coaches and technical directors.
Toure is now tied with Samuel Eto'o as the only players to have won the award four times, per City's website, though only Toure has managed the feat in four consecutive seasons. Lille's Vincent Enyeama and Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were the runners-up.
Toure was excellent for City in the 2013-14 season, scoring 20 goals and adding nine assists in 35 appearances (he has seven goals and an assist in 18 appearances this year). He also appeared in all three World Cups games for the Ivory Coast this summer, though he couldn't lead his country past the group stage.
At 31 years of age, Toure has shown no signs of slowing and remains one of the world's top footballers. It will hardly be surprising if next year he is handed his fifth consecutive CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
