Miami Football: 5 Recruits Who Fill Hurricanes' Biggest Needs
College football programs have less than one month until the most important recruiting time of the year—national signing day—which falls on Feb. 4.
The Miami Hurricanes are targeting five prospects who fit needs on the roster, hoping to receive commitments from the talented players in the class of 2015.
Al Golden and his coaching staff must address holes at the wide receiver position and at every level of the defense in order to replenish a team that underperformed last season.
Each player listed is a legitimate candidate to commit to the school, not simply a prospect who fits the Canes system.
Antonio Callaway, Wide Receiver
1 of 5Miami must replace the speed of Phillip Dorsett, who averaged a 24.2-yard mark that ranked No. 2 in the nation. The Canes have commitments from Lawrence Cager, Terrell Chatman and Therrell Gosier, but none of those players are burners.
But the staff doesn't need to travel far to find Antonio Callaway, a 4-star wideout from nearby Booker T. Washington. Callaway tallied 25.8 yards per reception over the last two seasons combined, scoring 12 touchdowns and racking up the always-important yards after catch.
The U was included in the receiver's most recent list, and Callaway later tweeted he knows where he wants to attend college.
Callaway is planning on visiting Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Miami, per Luke Stampini of 247Sports (subscription required).
Rasheem Green, Defensive Tackle

The Hurricanes defense improved against the run, but the unit still needs an interior force. Plus, with Olsen Pierre graduating, Miami needs to replace a 36-game starter at tackle.
While Rasheem Green is not a probable pull, the Canes are included in the 5-star defensive tackle's final four. Green has narrowed his list to USC, Oregon, Florida and Miami.
According to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports (subscription required), Green is tired of the recruiting process and might make his decision earlier than signing day.
If Golden and Co. can snag Green, he's potentially a class-changing commitment since the Canes might not grab more than a couple of high-profile prospects.
Kendrick Norton, Defensive Tackle
3 of 5
Green is a high priority, and Kendrick Norton shouldn't be any lower. A defensive tackle from Jacksonville, Florida, the 6'3", 305-pounder certainly fits what Miami needs on the interior.
At the Under Armour All-America practices, Norton told Rivals (subscription required) he is considering Ole Miss, UCLA and Auburn along with the Hurricanes.
Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports (subscription required) writes that the 4-star has cooled on Florida, but former Gators coach and current Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is recruiting Norton to the Tigers.
Norton has repeatedly said he's looking for a solid chance to play early, and two schools—Auburn and Miami—stick out in that regard.
Saleem Brightwell, Linebacker
4 of 5Miami is most in need of linebackers, and Saleem Brightwell provides experience both on the inside and outside. The 3-star is listed at 6'3", 205 pounds, so he projects as an outside linebacker for now.
However, Brightwell has played in the middle, which is where the Hurricanes most need young talent. For that to happen, though, he must add weight on a currently slender frame.
Regardless, the defense simply needs more linebackers, and Brightwell has the speed and aggressiveness—191 tackles and 13.5 sacks since 2013—to thrive on the outside.
The New Jersey product is scheduled to visit Miami on Jan. 16 and is down to Miami, Missouri, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin, as noted by Evan Flood of 247Sports (subscription required).
Marcus Lewis, Defensive Back
5 of 5
The Hurricanes secondary performed well for most of 2014, but the unit collapsed down the stretch. Golden has put an emphasis on the position, earning commitments from cornerback Michael Jackson, corner-safety Jaquan Johnson and safety Robert Knowles.
Marcus Lewis would definitely cap a solid haul for Miami, and the 4-star cornerback was closing in on a decision between Miami, Kentucky and Washington State. However, Michigan has re-entered the picture after hiring Jim Harbaugh.
Steven Lorenz of 247Sports (subscription required) notes Jim Harbaugh's staff is trying to get Lewis to visit on Jan. 16. That doesn't sound like a problem, per se, except the Canes are currently scheduled for that weekend.
Lewis was considered a Michigan lean over the summer, so the final month of his recruitment will be an intriguing battle.
