Milan Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of January 5
The deal is now official. After touring Milan's training centre and meeting all the players, Alessio Cerci signed his contract on Monday to formalize his 18-month loan.
Cerci made his Rossoneri debut on Tuesday against Sassuolo.
"You all know that I was going to ask the president for Cerci," Inzaghi told reporters, per Football Italia. "He has unique abilities and I can see that he’s motivated and has a desire to prove himself."
That concludes the first bit of business for Milan in January, but there are still several things to sort out.
M'Baye Niang continues to attract clubs, per Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia). Meanwhile, Nigel de Jong could still leave the side, according to CalcioMercato.com.
Let the madness begin.
—UPDATED ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 6—
Suso on the Verge of Joining Milan
1 of 5
Liverpool midfielder Suso will join Milan on a four-year deal, according to Marca.
The 21-year-old has barely featured for Brendan Rodgers' side, and he is currently rehabbing from a groin injury suffered in October.
He is due to join the Rossoneri in June, when his contract with Liverpool expires, but Gianluca Di Marzio's team also reports that Suso could arrive in January if Rodgers decides to let him go.
Suso spent two years with Liverpool's academy but only made 21 appearances with the senior side, scoring just once.
M'Baye Niang Headed on Loan
2 of 5
Milan are looking for a place for M'Baye Niang to shine, and there is no shortage of suitors.
Udinese, Newcastle, Olympiacos and Torino have all expressed interest in the 20-year-old, according to Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia).
Niang has made just three Serie A appearances this season.
He also spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Montpellier, where he started almost every game.
Milan to Sell Nigel De Jong?
3 of 5
According to CalcioMercato.com, Nigel de Jong could leave Milan in January if the right offer arrives.
De Jong has not been able to agree to terms on a new deal with the club. His current contract expires in the summer.
Meanwhile, Milan could go for PSG's Thiago Motta, whose agent told GianlucaDiMarzio.com (h/t Football Italia) that the Rossoneri are "particularly receptive" to a move.
Marco Van Ginkel Back to London?
4 of 5
Marco van Ginkel may return to Chelsea after making just two starts with Milan this season.
The 22-year-old midfielder is on loan from the London club, but he has failed to find playing time in Italy. Coach Pippo Inzaghi prefers to play Michael Essien ahead of Van Ginkel when he can.
"We have many midfielders, I've even told him that," Inzaghi said, per GianlucaDiMarzio.com. "I can't assure playing time to anyone, but we hold the player in high regard."
It is up to Van Ginkel: he could stay at Milan or go on loan at another club.
Milan in for Mattia Destro?
5 of 5
The search for a real striker is very much on, and Mattia Destro could be the ideal fit.
Milan are weighing a €15 million package to be paid in instalments for the 23-year-old, according to Il Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football Italia).
The first part of the deal would include a six-month loan, at a cost of €5 million, with the rest of the money paid later.
Destro has spent equal parts on the field and the bench for Roma this season as coach Rudi Garcia continues to play Francesco Totti up front. Destro still has four goals this term.
In order to finance the move, La Stampa (h/t Football Italia) also reports that Milan could ship out Stephan El Shaarawy for good.
