Nebraska Football: Players to Watch in High School All-Star Games

Erin SorensenDec 29, 2014

It's a new era for Nebraska football. With the conclusion of the Holiday Bowl, the Mike Riley era has officially begun for the Huskers. As a result, fans are anxious to get a glimpse at the future.

Fans will get just that when recruits take the field for the various high school all-star games. From the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 2 to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 3 to the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Jan. 4, there will be plenty of players worth watching that could one day wear the scarlet and cream.

While only one of those players is officially committed to Nebraska, that doesn't mean the rest aren't worth watching. Riley could very well snag a couple of these recruits away from other programs, which means Huskers fans don't want to miss out on seeing them in action.

Whom should you being keeping an eye on? For Nebraska fans, these are the five prospects worth watching in the upcoming high school all-star games.

Eric Lee, 4-Star CB

1 of 5

Committed

The 6'0", 175-pound cornerback committed to Nebraska on Feb. 1, 2014.

Semper Fi All-American Bowl, Jan. 4, 9 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

Defensive back Eric Lee is coming to Nebraska. The 4-star will enroll in spring classes at the university so he can begin working out with the Huskers as soon as possible, per the Omaha World-Herald.

It didn't hurt that Mike Riley retained defensive backs coach Charlton Warren, who recruited Lee. That connection had to help keep Lee invested in Nebraska, which is good news all around.

So make sure to tune in for Lee. The Semper Fi All-American Bowl will provide Huskers fans a good idea of what he will bring to the table at Nebraska.

Sheriron Jones, 4-Star Dual-Threat QB

Not Committed

The 6'2.5", 192-pound dual-threat quarterback has not committed to Nebraska.

Semper Fi All-American Bowl, Jan. 4, 9 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

Sheriron Jones was originally committed to the University of Florida, but he decommitted after Will Muschamp was fired.

"With the coaching change, I don't feel it will be the same at Florida," Jones said, per Ryan Bartow of 247Sports (subscription required). "With a coach that hasn't recruited me at all, I don't think things would be the same."

With his recruitment now open again, Nebraska is hoping to snag the dual-threat quarterback away from the south. Per the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska is now in his top three, alongside Florida and Tennessee,

Martez Ivey, 5-Star OT

3 of 5

Not Committed

The 6'6", 270-pound offensive tackle has not committed to Nebraska. He remains a high choice for the Huskers. The Crystal Ball at 247Sports predicts he will commit to Florida.

U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Jan. 3, 1 p.m. ET, NBC

This is a big long shot for Nebraska, seeing as Martez Ivey is the No. 1 player in the 2015 recruiting class, per 247Sports. That means competition is at an all-time high for Ivey.

After his high school won the state championship, Ivey said he was between Auburn and Florida (per USA Today). He's set to make his final decision during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Even if Nebraska isn't really in the mix, Ivey is a very talented player. He'll be worth watching in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl no matter whom he decides to play for.

Jordan Cronkrite, 4-Star RB

4 of 5

Not Committed

The 5'11", 196-pound running back has not committed to Nebraska. Nebraska head coach Mike Riley extended an offer to Jordan Cronkrite on Dec. 21.

U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Jan. 3, 1 p.m. ET, NBC

The native of Miami, Fla. just received an offer from Nebraska. The offer from the Huskers only adds to a long list of other programs hoping to receive a commit from Cronkrite.

He currently boasts offers from Louisville, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Texas, Miami and more. Needless to say, Nebraska has some stiff competition.

Cronkrite will still be worth watching in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Looking at his highlight tape alone, he's a solid running back who would be a great fit for Nebraska. Whether or not he chooses the Huskers is an entirely different story.

Jalin Barnett, 4-Star OG

5 of 5

Not Committed

The 6'4", 315-pound offensive guard has not committed to Nebraska.

Under Armour All-America High School Football Game, Jan. 2, 4 p.m. ET, ESPN2

Will Oklahoma native Jalin Barnett commit to Nebraska? Only time will tell, which is why he's worth watching in the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game.

One positive for Nebraska is that Barnett visited on Dec. 12. Plus, Barnett told ESPN Insider (subscription required) on Sunday that he has narrowed his choices to only two programs, per NewsOK.com: Oklahoma State and Nebraska.

Barnett is also currently ranked as the No. 1 offensive guard prospect in the country by ESPN.com, per NewsOK.com. ESPN Insider also had some nice things to say about Barnett, which should get Nebraska fans excited.

"With Barnett's size and strength, it is tough to bull-rush the big man who flashes ability to sink and reset well," ESPN's Craig Haubert wrote. "It is no easy task to work around Barnett either once he gets locked on, as he can maintain a good base and displays the short-area lateral agility to mirror rushers."
