Real Madrid Transfer News: Fans Shouldn't Worry About Sergio Ramos Rumours
Several news outlets are once again linking Sergio Ramos with a transfer away from Real Madrid in the summer, but fans shouldn't get worried about these latest rumours.
According to the Daily Star, sources suggest contract discussions between Ramos and Los Blancos are not going well, and Manchester United and Manchester City have already been in contact with the star defender:
"Sources close to the Spain star insist the Gunners and Manchester United and City have been contacted about a summer move for the defender.
Ramos, 28 is in the middle of contract talks with Real and they are not going well. He wants a pay rise even though his current deal does not expire until 2017.
But the right-back has yet to agree terms and both City and United have been told he would consider a transfer – though a deal would cost over £40million.
Ramos insisted quitting Real was the last thing on his mind when quizzed about the talks in public this week. [...]
But Ramos has a frosty relationship with Real president Florentino Perez and his representatives have been testing the market.

Let's begin by pointing out Ramos is Real's top centre-back, not right-back, and he has occupied that position for many years. If the people reporting these rumours cannot even get his position right, one has to wonder how valid the rumour actually is.
Furthermore, the only major Spanish publication reporting anything on Ramos' potential departure is El Confidencial. As shared by City Watch, they paint a slightly different picture: one of City waiting to see how the contract discussions go and not having already contacted him:
For the record, El Confidencial is the outlet that claimed Isco would join City as well, per 101 Great Goals' Ben Green.
They also reported City's supposed £165 million move for Lionel Messi, via City Watch, proving once and for all that just because British papers claim a source is reliable, that doesn't have to be the case:
Now, onto Ramos. With former Real sporting director Arrigo Sacchi telling Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan) he believes Los Blancos aren't willing to give into the defender's wage demands, the 28-year-old took to Twitter to defend himself:
He elaborated in an interview on the radio show El Larguero, and Corrigan provided a translation:
"I have a lot of affection and respect for [Sacchi] -- he was an important person when I signed for Madrid. I was with him a long time [but] I explained in my tweet: I do not do things for money. I never have. In this sense it depends on my happiness, and that of the president. I do not believe there will be any type of problem to reach an agreement.
Sincerely, this is the least of my worries. My agent is there for that, to communicate with the club. I have a few years left on my contract, and my intention is to stay at the team that has given me almost everything.
"
Indeed, Ramos has been commenting on how good the atmosphere is in the Real dressing room and how happy he is to be playing his football for the Champions League holders for months now.
He repeated how happy he is in the Spanish capital after the team's 2-0 Club World Cup win over San Lorenzo, per Telecinco (via AS, h/t ESPN FC's Corrigan):
"On a personal level I am very happy. I try and give my best and I have contributed with goals. We have won a trophy that we have not won for a long while. This is for madridismo and for my family.
It is a special day for the club's fans. This is the fruit of the efforts and of having won the Champions League last season. We dedicate it to all madridismo.
"
Ramos is a club legend, having been part of Real's senior setup since 2005 and winning countless trophies as part of the starting XI. He's among the team's most popular players, played an instrumental part in this year's Champions League run and is still in his prime.
He has lived in Madrid for the last nine years and became a father earlier this year, per the Mail Online's John Drayton. There's no logical reason for him to uproot his family and drag his partner, a well-known Spanish TV personality, all the way to Manchester.
The Spain international remains one of the best defenders in the world, often contributing in front of goal on set pieces as well. And as Madrid's vice-captain, he's one of Los Blancos' spiritual leaders on the pitch and the strong favourite to take over the armband once Iker Casillas retires.
Money has never been an issue for Real, and it won't be in this situation, either. As shared by Real Madrid TV's Phil Kitromilides, manager Carlo Ancelotti perhaps put it best:
The January transfer window opens in less than two weeks, and traditionally, this is the time of year when certain news outlets produce story after incredible story in an attempt to whet the appetite of fans.
Ultimately, they're just stories. There's no reason to believe Ramos is talking with one of the Premier League's leading clubs, and unless the Spain international openly demands a transfer in the coming weeks, fans shouldn't worry.
