MLB Betting: Pitchers To Bet On In August
With teams beginning to jockey for position in the divisional races across baseball, there’s going to be a premium put on red hot pitchers. Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s list of pitchers that you should be backing as the summer heats up for sports betting fanatics…
CC Sabathia, New York Yankees (5-0 in August 2008): Right around this time last season is when Sabathia really kicked it into gear and single-handedly helped pitch the Brewers to the postseason. In his six starts for the Brew Crew last August, CC only allowed eight runs in a whopping 48.1 innings of work. He struck out 51 batters in that stretch as well. Relatively speaking, Sabathia has struggled since signing the biggest free agent deal of the offseason with the Yankees, but if the Steinbrenner family can get an August out of their southpaw anywhere near the one that he gave the Brewers last year, the investment will be worth it. The biggest problem that baseball bettors have backing Sabathia this year as opposed to last year is the fact that he is constantly overvalued because he is a Yankee. Sabathia has already been a favorite of at least -250 eight times this season. The month of August got off to a good start when Sabathia beat the White Sox, which bumped his career record for the month up to a whopping 29-9 in 47 starts.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Cliff Lee, Philadelphia Phillies (5-0 in August 2008): The AL Cy Young Award winner from last season finally got himself out of the baseball purgatory known as Cleveland right before last week’s trade deadline, and now he finds himself pitching for the defending champs in the midst of a pennant run. Maybe the change of scenery was just what the doctor ordered, as Lee threw a four-hit complete game in his first outing as a Phil. Parlay that with the fact that Lee was the best pitcher in the American League last August (5-0 with a 1.86 ERA) and the formula is there for a big month for the lefty. Be careful though, because August hasn’t always been Lee’s best month. Yes, he is 11-6 with a 4.11 career ERA in the month of August, but those numbers were significantly worse before last season.
Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins (4-0 in August 2008): Manager Rod Gardenhire could really use a month of August out of his top lefty like he got last August. After a lengthy minor league stint last season, Liriano came back to the big leagues with vengeance in the month of August, going a perfect 4-0 with an AL-best 1.23 ERA in six starts. The southpaw has struggled this season, as his ERA is over 5.00, and he has virtually no chance of posting a winning record for the year. However, if history is any indicator, this should be a good month. Liriano is 4-1 with a career-best 1.99 ERA in seven career starts in the month of August. If the Twins are going to run down the Tigers and White Sox in the AL Central, they’ll need another big month out of Liriano.
