Who Has Ever Been A Bandwagon Fan But Isn't One Now?
Being a guy who hasn't been into sports for even half of my life (only 16), I've been a bandwagon fan, but unintentionally. It started when I began to watch the NBA last year, right around the finals. The Celtics and Lakers, as you know, were competing for the title, and my dad, who wasn't really a Celtics fan, was pulling for them because he didn't like the Lakers, so I pulled for the Celtics, too.
After watching that entire series, I loved the Celtics, but mainly because, other than the Lakers, they were the only basketball team I was familiar with at the time, and it was a lot of fun watching them win when I was pulling for them. For a big part of this past NBA season, I loved the Celtics more, and I even bought a Paul Pierce jersey when my dad got tickets to a Hawks/Celtics game earlier this year (I'm an Atlanta native).
While he was cheering for the Hawks, I was cheering for the good ol' Celtics, who I didn't know squat about prior to them winning the championship. My dad was rooting for the Hawks. I cheered for the Celtics during that game, but something in me wanted to pull for my hometown Hawks. Even though the Celtics won and I had a great time, something in me wanted to see the Hawks find a way to win the game.
Fast forward to now, and I'm an Atlanta Hawks basketball fan, although I do like some other basketball teams like the Cavs, Suns, and Rockets. Now that I've brushed up on some of the Hawks/Celtics matchups of the past, I have a hard time really liking the Celtics now. And I've even considered returning my Paul Pierce jersey, but it's way past time to do that now. That being said, I'm a Braves, Hawks, and Falcons fan, because after knowing what a bandwagon fan is (and there are many of them at my school), I really don't want to be one.
Has anyone ever undergone something similar?
