Barry Diagnosed with Ligament Damage
Everton issued a statement, updating Gareth Barry's status following his injury on Sunday:
"Gareth Barry is continuing to be assessed after being carried off on a stretcher at Sunderland on Sunday.
The Blues midfielder was taken straight to hospital in the north east where subsequent x-rays thankfully showed that there was no break.
His ankle is still very swollen, which complicates assessment, but the Everton medical staff have confirmed that there is ligament damage in the area.
The player’s treatment at Finch Farm is ongoing and although it is too early to estimate a length of absence, it is hopeful the time out will be weeks rather than months.

A tough start to the season for Everton may have just gotten a lot tougher, as midfielder Gareth Barry left Sunday's game against Sunderland with a leg injury.
The club's official Twitter account has more:
Following the game, Roberto Martinez updated Barry's status, via the club:
Barry was making his 11th appearance in Premier League play for Everton. Coming into the day, he had an assist and earned a 6.99 average match rating in the first 10 matches via WhoScored.com. A key pillar in the midfield for Everton, Barry's absence will certainly be felt.
The Toffees will certainly hope his injury isn't too serious. Everton has continued to climb up the table after a slow start to the season, but as they attempt to regain last year's form they can hardly afford to lose many key players.
